The Oscars Awards ceremony was held at a gala that had no strange, violent, or uncomfortable incidents as in other years. For some, it was a quiet ceremony; for others, it was more boring than usual. The truth is that in general terms there were not even surprises with the winners or major controversy in this regard.

>La entrega de los Premios Oscars se llevó a cabo en una gala que no tuvo incidentes extraños, ni violentos, ni incómodos como en otros años. Para algunos, fue una ceremonia tranquila; para otros, fue más aburrida que de costumbre. Lo cierto es que en términos generales ni siquiera hubo sorpresas con los premiados ni mayor polémica al respecto.

I didn't see any of the documentary shorts, the fictional ones, or the animated ones, but I chatted with a friend on Saturday morning and she told me that her favorites were _The Elephant Whisperers_ and _The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse_, both winners at night (I really think my friend has a very good eye for this). _Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio_ won the animated feature film award, and his take on Collodi's classic tale done in stop motion was a favorite of people on this platform; Of all the reviews I read about that film here, I couldn't find any that pointed out any negative aspect of the film. So, Guillermo was the fair winner. As was _Top Gun: Maverick_ for Best Sound and as expected _Avatar: the Way of Water_ by James Cameron for being recognized as the film with the best Visual Effects. Both films had several nominations, but they went home with only one statuette, both of a technical nature.

Como también lo fue _Top Gun: Maverick_ al llevarse el Mejor Sonido y como era de esperarse _Avatar: the Way of Water_ de James Cameron al ser reconocida como la película con los mejores Efectos Visuales. Ambas películas contaban con varias nominaciones, pero se marcharon a casa con una única estatuilla, ambas de carácter técnico.

In the musical categories I was 0/2 because Lady Gaga and her _"Hold My Hand"_ written for _Top Gun: Maverick_ lost to the song by M.M. Keeravani _"Naatu Naatu"_, soundtrack for _RRR_ and the Best Original Score went to the German _Im Westen nichts Neues_. Perhaps I can understand the latter (although I still prefer Hurwitz), but I was surprised by M.M. Keeravani, I didn't expect this.

Quizás esta última la puedo entender (aunque sigo prefiriendo lo de Hurwitz), pero sí me soprendió lo de M.M. Keeravani, no me lo esperaba.

Ruth Carter repeated this time what she had already achieved for her work in the first _Black Panther_, obtaining the Best Costume Design, although this time the Marvel production only took one statuette. I did not hit this result, I did not see the film and although Carter had already won in the category four years ago, I did not want to give it as a winner without having seen what she had done and now she's made history by becoming the first African-American woman to have two Oscars. Where I was right was in _The Whale_ taking the award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The whole movie is judged, of course, but what stands out especially is the look of Brendan Fraser, how they made his prosthetics, his bald head, the look on his face, all of those elements look real and natural on him, as if from Charlie really existed, and not Fraser.

Carter repitió esta vez lo que ya había conseguido para su trabajo en la primera _Black Panther_, obteniendo el reconocimiento Mejor Vestuario, aunque en esta oportunidad la producción de Marvel sólo se llevó una estatuilla. Este resultado no lo acerté, no vi la película y aunque Carter ya había ganado en la categoría hace cuatro años, no quise darla como ganadora sin haber visto lo que había hecho y ahora ha hecho historia convirtiéndose en la primera mujer afroamericana en tener dos Oscars. En donde sí acerté fue en  _The Whale_ llevando el premio a Mejor Maquillaje y Peinado. Se juzga toda la película, por supuesto, pero lo que destaca especialmente es el aspecto de Brendan Fraser, cómo lograron que sus prótesis, su calvicie, el aspecto de su rostro, todos esos elementos se vieran reales y naturales en él, como si de verdad Charlie existiera, y no Fraser.

Photography and Best Production Design, both awards went to _Im Westen nichts Neues_. I completely agree, although I would have wanted _Tár_ to win an award and one of my options was for him to win in cinematography. The Best Editing, as I said, went to Paul Rogers for _Everything Everywhere All at Once_, a film that also won Best Original Screenplay (and it's really original) and just as I wanted Sarah Polley won her Oscar for the adaptation of _Women Talking_. And in the same way that it has happened before, the international film that also achieved other nominations, in this case _Im Westen nichts Neues_, was the winner in the category. It happened with _Cold War_, with _Parasites_ and with _Roma_, to name just a few examples.

>La fotografía y el Mejor Diseño de Producción, ambos premios fueron para _Im Westen nichts Neues_. Estoy completamente de acuerdo, aunque hubiera querido que _Tár_ se llevase algún premio y una de mis opciones era que ganase en la cinematografía. El Mejor Montaje, como lo dije, fue para Paul Rogers por _Everything Everywhere All at Once_, película que también ganó en Mejor Guión Original (y en verdad es originalísimo) y tal como yo quería Sarah Polley se llevó su Oscar por la adaptación de _Women Talking_. Y de la misma forma en que ha sucedido previamente, la película internacional que logró además otras nominaciones, en este caso _Im Westen nichts Neues_, fue la ganadora en la categoría. Sucedió con _Cold War_, con _Parasites_ y con _Roma_, por nombrar solamente algunos ejemplos.

Of the four awards given out for performances, three of them were won by _Everything Everywhere All at Once_, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh taking the Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Lead Actress awards respectively and They didn't win the Best Lead Actor award, firstly because they weren't competing in the category and then because Brendan Fraser for _The Whale_ was not only everyone's wish but also the most logical thing to do. Well deserved.

>De los cuatro premios entregados por actuaciones, tres de ellos fueron ganados por _Everything Everywhere All at Once_, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan  y Michelle Yeoh se llevaron los premios a Mejor Actriz de reparto, Mejor Actor de Reparto y Mejor Actriz Principal respectivamente y no ganaron el premio a Mejr Actor Principal, primeramente porque no competían en la categoría y luego porque lo de Brendan Fraser para _The Whale_ era no sólo el deseo de todo el mundo sino también lo más lógico. Merecidísimo.

Having swept the acting awards, taking home the best original screenplay and editing, it was only natural that the direction of The Daniels and their film would take the two main awards of the night. Best Director for them and Best Film for _Everything Everywhere All at Once_, rounding out a total of 7/11 and becoming the big winner of the night, followed by _Im Westen nichts Neues_ with 4/9, a very good record for an internactional film and _The Whale_ with 2/3. In recent years the awards had been a little more distributed (especially in 2020 and 2021) and to find another film that has won seven statuettes we have to go back to 2013 when Alfonso Cuarón's _Gravity_ took 7 victories out of 10 possible. In general, I was very satisfied with the award, except for the detail that the loser of the night, _Tár_, has gone 0/6, being one of the great films that have been made in recent years, but for someone to win someone more has to lose. >Habiendo arrasado en los premios actorales, llevándose el mejor guión original y el montaje, lo más natural era que la dirección de The Daniels y su película se llevaran los dos premios principales de la noche. Mejor Director para ellos y Mejor Película para _Everything Everywhere All at Once_, redondeando un total de 7/11 y convirtiéndose en la gran ganadora de la noche, seguida de _Im Westen nichts Neues_ con 4/9, un muy buen récord para una película de habla o inglesa y _The Whale_ con 2/3. En los últimos años los premios habían estado un poco más repartidos (sobre todo en 2020 y 2021) y para encontrar otra película qe se haya levado siete estatuillas tenemos que remontarnos a 2013 cuando _Gravity_ de Alfonso Cuarón se llevó 7 victorias de 10 posibles. En general quedé muy conforme con la premiación, salvo por el detalle de que la perdedora de la noche, _Tár_, se haya ido 0/6 siendo una de las grandes películas que se han hecho en los últimos años, pero para que alguien gane alguien más tiene que perder.
