Fidget Blanket Progress

You’ve already been [updated](https://peakd.com/hive-127911/@crosheille/fidget-blanket-update-and-my-confession) on me handing over this project to my mom. She has been consistently working on it as she knows the importance of getting this to Aunt C as soon as possible.

Her focus now is to reinforce all of ~~my mistakes~~ the previous stitches to make sure everything is nice and sturdy so that the blanket holds up. This is one of the reasons I was glad to hand this over to the professional as my work was already falling apart. Hey, no shame here 🤷🏽‍♀️, it’s no secret my sewing stinks. 😅

Anyhoo, last night my mom FaceTimed me to show me her progress and all of the tabs she added for the reinforcements. I was really happy with what she showed me. I took a few screenshots from our call so you can see the progress too (please excuse the photo quality as these are *screenshots* and not photos taken with our DSLR).

She added a silver ring on to the zipper to help Aunt C be able to grip it better. I really liked her idea because trying to grab that little zipper with shaky hands would be difficult.

You can also see she added a tab on top of the zipper end using the same red fabric. The more secure these pieces are the better.

To make sure the ribbon and loops stay in place she added some red ric rac ribbon. I thought it not only worked well as an extra security feature but it also adds more detail and design to the blanket.

Here is a newly added fidget tool. When I saw this buckle in the store I thought it would add a nice chic touch. I really like the look of it especially against the yellow fabric. It’s one of my favorite pieces.

We had quite a few pieces of fabric leftover after cutting the squares so my mom has plenty of scraps to play around with and add on top of each other.

Here’s the second newest fidget station. I’m really hoping these activities help to relax Aunt C. I think moving these rings back and forth will do the trick. Exercising her fingers around them should work to help keep her calm. Even the sound of them bumping into each other could have some kind of effect.

Here is an overall pic of all the tools added so far. It’s coming along so well and I’m getting eager to see more rows added.

I can’t say enough how grateful I am for my mother. I didn’t appreciate her skills back then because I didn’t understand the worth and value of them. I look at her today in awe of how amazing she is with what she can do.

At my age today I truly wish I had her skills. Only I would take the easy way and let her just transfer them to me magically lol 😂! She would touch her sewing machine and then my hands and just like that I can sew as professional as she can. 😃😆

I know skills don’t come easy like that without practice, patience and perseverance. I honestly don’t think I have it in me to work up to it. I just feel you really have to be passionate about something to put that much time and effort into it.

I think knowing the basics is good enough for now. Who knows how I’ll feel about it next year or the year after. A part of me feels guilty for not continuing my sewing classes with my mom. I feel a sense of obligation and duty to be taught by her while she’s still in my life and I’m still in hers but I don’t want to pretend like I’m enjoying it when I’m not. I’ve had some fun moments with sewing but because it doesn’t come easy for me I feel down and frustrated.

Okay…not sure why I said all that but evidently it was heavy on my heart and I needed to get it out. Thanks for listening lovelies ~ 💓☺️

I love it! I'm sure it will be appreciated and loved! I love the idea and I'm so glad your mom has been able to help complete the project. The strap is a great addition! 
My mom didn't teach me to sew either, but I picked it up at a quilting class. Now I just don't have the time to do that - although I did find out recently my brother's wife is having a baby, so I'm going to have to make a quilt soon!

Thank you!  We are really hoping it helps keep her busy and active.  It helps when people dealing with dementia have something to focus on and attend to.

I thought about watching videos on how to sew certain things I’m interested in but I think that will come later.  I hope you share the quilt with us when you begin ;)

I asked my SIL what theme they have for the nursery and she said they have no idea, just no clowns. My mom handmade a huge clown with balloons for my brother's nursery and he says it traumatized him. Ha! So I told her I'd surely have to work a clown fabric into the quilt and orange because my brother's rival college is orange. 😂 Ha!
