I love a good sipping whiskey and one of my go to whiskeys lately has been Four Roses Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. It’s a easy bottle to find at your local store and within the industry it is seen as a highly rated whiskey, known for its smooth and balanced flavor profile. 

Four Roses has a rich history dating back to the late 1800s. I love the story of the name on the back of the bottle. I'm a sucker for good marketing. As for a little history, the brand was purchased by Seagram in 1943 and then again in the 2000s by the Japanese company Kirin. The brand has since seen a resurgence in popularity and it’s because of this popularity that I actually tried this whiskey. My whiskey friend swears by all the Four Roses products and he was the one that got me to try my first bottle.

If you try this you’ll notice that the flavor profile stands out from some of the other cheaper bottles. The base whiskey is made from a blend of different mash bills and different yeast strains, which results in a uniquely sweet, caramel, vanilla tobacco leather flavor profile. On the nose, it has hints of floral, fruit, and spices, with a smooth, medium-bodied mouthfeel and a long finish with a gentle warmth that lingers in the throat. I’ve never mixed it I only have it over the rocks so I can’t comment on it from that perspective. However, add two ice cubes after sipping on glass for an hour you’ll pick up on why they are so highly rated!

I have had the small batch in the past and I have a bottle of single barrel right now that I got from a party store over in Bay City.  It is quite good.  I always have a hard time picking which bourbon to start with on the weekends when I have a couple.  I haven't had this offering though.  I will have to check it out.  One of my favorite cheap go-to bottles is Old Grandad Bonded.  I also like that Longbranch stuff from Wild Turkey that Matthew collaborated with them on.

I'm jealous of the single barrel I had a sip of it a wild back and thought it would be good addition to my collection. I have never had old Grandad, but I love the look of the bottle. I've been tempted to kick it up but never had. Based on your recommendation it's getting picked up the next time I'm at the store.

My Meijer usually has it for less than $30 per bottle.  It's been a while since I bought some, I've still been nursing my bottle.  Make sure you get the bonded though.  That 100 proof makes a difference.  The 4R single barrel select wasn't too expensive from what I remember.  Maybe around $50.

You may be right brother but in my case I am a rose lover, I just love roses, in fact I plan to get one tattooed, so the fact that this bottle has a rose design is reason enough to buy me a couple. 🤣

I just had to read a genuine piece by you, to compare to the AI post, but in this case all I can do is repeat what I said about the Jefferson's review: Not a great topic for me to evaluate. 

Sure, you described something delicious and flavorful, but essentially  what it comes down to is not that much different from what the AI wrote about the Jefferson's. Which is what I believe the reason why these cute background stories are put on the bottles. The story of the Southern belle with her corsage offers much more of an image than any description of "floral, fruit, and spices, with a smooth, medium-bodied mouthfeel and a long finish with a gentle warmth" could ever give. At least for me, that is.

When I was last in Kentucky, I visited this distillery. I remember 4 roses being swill when I was younger. Not sure whether it was because my palette wasn’t refined enough for bourbon or I had it during the change in ownership and subsequent consistency issues. 

Anyhow, their  aged reserve was some of the finest whisky I tasted in my whole tour so I have changed my tune.

My preferences have changed when it comes to bourbons too. I use to like more muted water bourbons, but now I like a higher ABV with loads of finer flavor notes.I still don't like rye or really bog like flavors.
