In his blog, Peter Todd explains the difference between pure fantasy and "serious science fiction." If you are not familiar with the last term, it refers to science fiction with a focus on scientific accuracy. He walks the line between Robert A. Heinlein's novel and the conversation with Carl Sagan. With this in mind, Todd tells his speculation about transporting large amounts of solar energy from space to Earth. The means of transport? In Twitter on August 16 Todd responded to Max Keyser's comments: "It's much cheaper to send solar energy gathered in space back to Earth in blocks than electricity." Naturally, the advantage of collecting solar energy in space is the fact that "... there are no such annoying clouds that will hinder the path."

Todd also explained that NASA's near-sun probes illustrate that this area could be a good location for solar-powered farms.

The speculative aspect of this project is whether cosmic solar energy will actually become practical. One of the biggest challenges for the experience of collecting solar energy from space satellites, for example, comes from the difficulties of maintaining them for a long time. The European Space Agency said that "because of the aggressive cosmic environment, the life of existing solar panels in space is significantly shorter than Earth's." This, therefore, makes the prospect a bit more expensive and, ultimately, less effective.

### BlockStream Satellite

Outside the presence of conferences and blogging, Todd is a cryptography consultant, or simply speaking, involved in block-based developments. His interest in the relationship between the digging of Bitcoin and the cosmic solar energy comes from another company - Blockstream.
