We are in 2020 but in theory back at 2005 levels. Throw in inflation and actually the figures would be rather worse as everything is more expensive today. If this is the average GDP per capita then obviously the masses are all below the bread line living in poverty. I know since 2014 the Dollar has gained against the Rand by a whopping 40% and we all know what we think of the Dollar. This is not what you want to see if you are planning on staying in the country permanently as this tells a story of something not being quite right. Covid is only partially to blame and suggest even if we had no lockdowns the graph would still be heading South. For me personally this highlights the need for everyone to be holding some form of crypto just to try and stay ahead. In the past many had to suck it up and roll with the punches, but today we have choices. The idea of investing into digital money/tokens sounds ludicrous, but this is where the future now lies. The magic money that comes out of thin air is more valuable than many currencies around the world. Would institutions be buying into something that wasn't viable as they can see the writing on the wall. If you asked me 10 years ago if I thought the likes of Bitcoin would be over $50 0000 a coin I would say you were nuts. Things change with the times and this is where we are now and would rather be having a bag full of crypto than a bag full of dollars. For the GDP per capita to drop so alarmingly so quickly it seems every economy around the world is in some form of trouble and this is not an exceptional case. When you are the government in charge plundering and emptying the coffers the last thing you would do is to invest in the economy.** What does it say about a country if the average GDP per capita is just over $500 per month.
