With Botswana's new rules you would have thought they have been hard hit.

I still see actifit posts and bike rides in the woods plus take away pizza. This doesn't really sound like a lock down, but more of a guide line. It seems some countries are only going for the gentle approach right now and wonder if that is wise or not.I haven't seen a take away for weeks yet it feels like months. 

Honestly I am happy with the measures South Africa has imposed as I want this to end sooner than later. If you are going to do something just do it properly and in my thinking is the only way to do anything. I would be really pissed if we opened up too soon and had to lock down again as that would be more damaging economically I think. South Africa only has 24 deaths out of 2000 cases which is nothing, yet we have this right now and feel it is correct.

South Africa's lock down in a nut shell.

Shopping is restricted to food and other essentials.

Restaurants and Take Away's are closed.

Sale of alcohol and cigarettes is prohibited.

Walking for exercise is banned including walking the dog.

Public gatherings are banned

Funerals are restricted to 50 people

Everyone stays at home and that means at home.

Army and police have been deployed to ensure compliance.

If you break the rules there are fines and prison sentences. There is no bail or court hearing until after the lock down period is over. I was raised in an era where the government had a strong police force and army and no one crossed them. I am comfortable with these measures as long as it comes to an end soon. I would rather have this than people out and about getting take away as that is not having any controls in place.

If you think this is to drastic we will have to wait and see which country has the right balance when this is all over. Botswana announced yesterday that their lock down will end at the end of the month but a State of Emergency will exist for another 6 months.

I wouldn't be over happy with this as Botswana hasn't really been effected  at all. Imagine having no alcohol on sale for 6 months which seems way too extreme. They have only had 1 death out of a population of 2 million. I could understand if they had 10 000, but only 1 just doesn't make economic sense.
