##  Quickest business set up I have ever done and will be up and running in less than 4 months from the time I was approached about the idea to manufacturing.




Things are moving at a million miles an hour since I agreed to start a manufacturing business last month. I knew they were desperate and have now informed me that orders are expected to be fulfilled starting from November. That is literally 2 months away and need to get to grips with this fast. Normally when you are chasing the clock the chances of making financial blunders are real and why I am making the calls tapping into the brains of others.

This morning I made some calls with my close contacts to see who knew what or who they knew with regard to the printing process required. 2 months is not that long and the time to learn is now so I am trying to understand why some companies outsource their printing and don't do it themselves. Common sense tells me there has to be a reason for this and until I know the figures I am not investing in setting up a printing section if it is not viable.

The other machinery required is industrial sewing machines and knowing nothing about sewing I have enlisted the help of a seamstress when buying the machines. I have calculated the numbers that need to be manufactured and divided by the hours revealing that I need 6 machines to start with which will eventually ramp up to 10.

So much for getting away with 3 or possibly 4 staff members as that won't work and why outsourcing the printing may be the answer as that would require another 2 or 3 people to run that as well. I need a few tailors as well and calculation they can do 6 an hour each achieving 100 per day which gives me my number of 2000 items per month. This is now looking more like a team of 15 minimum which is a far bigger operation than I had first envisioned. Unfortunately this is labor intensive where no corners can be cut and I don't understand enough yet which is the main problem.

As daunting as this may sound it is exciting at the same time with one eye on replicating the operation in Europe/UK hopefully next year. This is definitely going to be a huge learning curve on what is possible and will be fine tuning the operation once I see the numbers. This will take 6 months of production before any tweaking can start which will no doubt make it even more profitable.

Dealing with numbers is what I understand and know how to maximise production having done this for years in the past. When I first took over a facility they had over 100 staff producing 500 items per day and it was not cost effective. This took years of tweaking and when we closed the plant down we were peaking at 5000 items per day with around 50 staff. Numbers do not scare me and doing the job working with the team being hands on is how you understand where savings and increased productivity can be found. 

The timeline is what is the scary part now and nothing else due to knowing orders are already being placed for a product I have never made before. What could go wrong lol. Fingers crossed this will roll out smoothly and can be applied overseas.
