Well, guys, the project I’m going to delve into today is not the easiest one to understand, yet very interesting and very ambitious. But I will try to explain it in the simplest words.
My attention was caught by Daostack – an infrastructure project for DAOs, decentralized autonomous organizations. An infrastructure project is a project which can create blockchain technologies. The idea behind Daostack is to provide DAOs with an operating system for collective intelligence. What is the essence of a DAO? It is basically a group of people or collectives with a shared goal that wants to collectively create something valuable. Wikipedia is a pure example of a DAO where thousands of competent individual writers from the whole world are united in a community to create trustworthy content on a single website. But every DAO encounters versatile problems on their way to success. These problems include the physical distance between members, scalability issues, lack of governance, difficulty with decision-making, and many others.
This is where Daostack comes. The project will bring the best minds under one roof (say, one platform) and endow them with tools so that they will be able to create their own blockchain-projects, decentralized applications (dapps), and platforms to achieve the desired goal. In a nutshell, Daostack strives to become “the mother” of other decentralized projects in the blockchain space by providing a modular comprehensive framework for building and running DAOs.
## How will it work?
Daostack presents a platform to create the collective value management in decentralized organizations on a base of the blockchain technology that also includes a friendly developer environment for the creation of JavaScript applications and an intuitive user interface. Like HTTP makes it possible to build websites and ensure their intercommunication, the DAOstack platform affords an opportunity to create web companies, collaboration applications, and DAOs and ensure their smooth interoperability, while supporting the coherence of their interests.
Being on a mission to empower decentralized organizations, DAOstack creates an environment which allows large groups of individuals or collectives to unite their efforts to reach a common goal. The platforms will provide a blockchain-driven governance system and a virtual hub for the users (entrepreneurs, freelancers, investors) to form the interface of a so-called Internet of Work.
Smart Agencies will be the elementary parties of governance on the blockchain. A DAO represents a mesh-network consisting of Agencies which have a common goal and economic interests. DAOstack is a multilevel system comprising different technological solutions and ready-to-use products which Agencies and DAOs can use for an efficient operation. Such a system gives the platform users an opportunity to collaboratively manage their assets, coordinate work and business agreements with other agencies and DAOS, grant each other permissions for decision-making, and manage their own protocols.
DAOstack’s ecosystem is presented by the next components:
- **Arc**. It is a Solidity smart-contract framework running on Ethereum blockchain and supporting the function and governance of agencies. Arc allows for creating, customizing, deploying, and operating decentralized autonomous organizations;
- **Arc.js** acts as a Javascript library. It allows the front-end interface developers without much competence in Solidity or blockchain to create collaboration apps on top of Arc framework;
- **Alchemy** makes the 1st user interface for Arc framework and is the native development of DAOstack. It will allow the third-party developer dapps to integrate with Arc and DAOstack.
- **ArcHives** are DAOstack shared registries called Mosaic, Compendium, and The Hive. Together, they will enable the networking cooperation between different third-party collaborative applications designed on the base of Arc.
As for their roadmap, the more or less significant releases are expected not earlier than the Q4 of 2018 when they hope to launch the public pilot of Genesis, the first DAO to form using DAOstack. After that, there will be a series of other releases (such as Alchemy beta and 2nd and 3 rd Releases, Genuine Release, Generosity Release) up to the Q4 of 2019.
The code of the platform is found on https://github.com/daostack.

## What are DAOstack use cases?
DAOstack will enable its users to:
- Start up a new DAO enterprise, customize its governance system to distribute the tokens and reputation, find competent collaborators, and reward professionals for their work;
- Do the following things: get familiar with existing projects and contribute to them, pick favorite tasks, and receive rewards;
- Form broad-scale, open-source developer networks;
- Constitute business agreements and cooperate with other projects;
- Invest in diversified curated portfolios of blockchain projects.
## DAOstack team
- **Matan Field** is the chief executive officer and Architect of the project. Boasting a Ph.D. in Physics from the Israel Weizmann Research Institute, he is a seasoned DAO creator and blockchain entrepreneur.
- **Adam Levi** is the chief technical officer and a Deep blockchain technologist with a master’s degree in physics from Technion, interested in quantum effects in black holes and bearing a 22-year experience in the code writing.
- **Roberto Klein** is responsible for Legal and Finance issues. Master of Engineering, he is an experienced investor and entrepreneur and is very competent in the blockchain regulatory concerns, corporate finance administration, and startup accelerating.
- **Josh Zemel** is in charge of Communication and Marketing. He has solid experience in marketing, management, and business growth in such companies as Equifax, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Toyota.

## DAOstack Token and ICO
The fuel of the Daostack platform is GEN. It is an ERC-20 token that will be a payment unit for all transactional operations across the ecosystem.
The project will conduct a whitelist token presale that opens on the 1st of May, but the date it ends is not set yet. Their private sale is going on right now with a minimum purchase of $100.000 in ETH equivalent.
As for their ICO, it looks like that:
**ICO period**: 8 MAY – 7 JUN (or until the hard cap is reached)
**Token code**: GEN
**Token type**: ERC-20
**Public Sale Token Price**: 1 GEN = 1.00 USD
**Hard Cap**: 30,000,000 USD
**Total Token Supply**: 100,000,000
**Tokens for all sales**: 40%
**Whitelist**: YES
**Not Allowed**: U.S. persons
**Minimum purchase requirement**: 1 ETH
**Know Your Customer** (KYC): TBA
**Will Accept**: ETH
**GEN Token distribution will be as following:**
- 40 % of GEN tokens will be managed by the collective intelligence of the Genesis DAO, the first DAO built with the DAO stack.
- 40 % of GEN will be sold across all sales.
- 10 % of tokens are reserved to reward the team, contributors, and advisors.
- 10 % of tokens are meant for the future contributors.
**The raised funds are expected to be used as:**
- $10M for the development of the platform and its ecosystem
- The rest of the funds will be reserved for the GENESIS DAO
## Conclusion
Positioning itself as a WordPress for DAOs, Daostack is a large-scale blockchain project with a mission to create an operating system for decentralized autonomous companies, catalyzing their collaboration and cooperation. It will deliver toolkits so that collectives can use them to reach a shared goal or create some value.
The product will be launched in the spring of 2018 and will include a modular framework powered by smart contracts, an easy-to-use JavaScript developer environment, and a user-friendly interface, thus allowing anyone to participate in a DAO without special technical knowledge. In fairly simple words, Daostack is attempting to coordinate large groups of individuals, organizations, funds, and markets and point them toward a collective action. Will the project make a hit? As usual, only the time will tell.
