It is important to get a sense of how the market is doing if we are actively investing and trading.

Yes, there are many ways to do that. The most direct would be to look at the prices of the key assets such as BTC.

But that only tells us how the market is doing, and not how OUR investment is doing.

Our investment could consist of multiple assets and checking how our overall portfolio is doing is one approach.

But that can be misleading as our portfolio is still not the market.

*This is what I do.*

I have a DCA account of BTC of about ten dollars per day. I have done that for a couple of months by now. It was in the red for a while until the last two weeks. It’s value peaked yesterday. About 10 percent gain.

I often check it as a personal indicator for how the market is doing because its an indication of how my DCA investments in the bear market is fairing. The size of gains proportion would tell me how the market is doing.

Now, I just saw a huge enough dip in that account. It now has given back the gains. Back to 2 percent gain.

Ok, now, I know the dip is serious because this is a status taking into consideration the DCA in the bear market. 

This means we are not out of the bear yet. *I am not out of my bear market yet.*

Using this personally relevant indicator, I know how much I should expect to take profits off the table. Say, when the profit margin of my BTC DCA peaked to 200 percent. That would be substantial and I might sell everything else to lock in my gains.
