Hello Steemians! This is meant to be a short post just to share some quick thoughts after attended [CloudSec 2018](https://www.cloudsec.com/sg/) today. CloudSec is an annual cybersecurity conference organized by Trend Micro. Trend Micro is a Japanese multinational cybersecurity and defense company founded in Los Angeles, California. It has an annual revenue of 148.8 billion JPY which is about US$ 1.3 billion, making it one of the largest player in the cybersecurity industry. [Source](https://www.cloudsec.com/sg/) Ever since I started taking an interest in cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies, I am always on a lookout for presentations related to these topics when I am at a cybersecurity conference. And sure enough, in this conference there was a presentation on cryptocurrency related threats. [Source](https://www.cloudsec.com/sg/#agenda) Similarly, in the recent RSA Conference Asia Pacific 2018, there were also several workshops and presentations related to blockchains and cryptocurrencies.

[Source](https://www.rsaconference.com/events/ap18/agenda/sessions/6624-Blockchains-Ushering-in-a-New-Age)

[Source](https://www.rsaconference.com/events/ap18/agenda/sessions/6396-Hacking-the-Blockchain-Industry-Projects)

[Source](https://www.rsaconference.com/events/ap18/agenda/sessions/6407-Blockchain-for-Cybersecurity%E2%80%94Microsegmented-Network-Access-Control)

[Source](https://www.rsaconference.com/events/ap18/agenda/sessions/6759-Beyond-Traditional-Password-Authentication-PKI-and-Blockchain) Likewise for Blackhat USA 2018,

[Source](https://www.blackhat.com/us-18/briefings/schedule/#blockchain-autopsies---analyzing-ethereum-smart-contract-deaths-10987)

[Source](https://www.blackhat.com/us-18/briefings/schedule/#beating-the-blockchain-by-mapping-out-decentralized-namecoin-and-emercoin-infrastructure-9980) It is heartening to see that there are interest in blockchain and cryptocurrencies in the cybersecurity space. This indicates that people in the industry recognize that more people may start to adopt cryptocurrencies and therefore there is business opportunities in cryptocurrencies security. For those who survived the recent crash and the 7 months long bear market, I hope this cheers you up a little. Also, I recently see many posts related to [SteemPeak](https://steempeak.com) and I thought I should check it out. This is my first post via SteemPeak and so far the experience has been great! I will continue to use it for a few more days and will probably write my thoughts on this some time later. Thanks for reading and as usual let me know your thoughts! **Projects/Services I am working on:** - [Steem-Oracle Project](https://steemit.com/steemoracle/@culgin/the-steem-oracle-project-harnessing-the-wisdom-of-steemians) - [Byteball to Steem conversion service](https://steemit.com/byteball/@culgin/i-am-running-a-service-to-convert-byteball-to-steem) --- **You can find me in these communities:**
[](https://discord.gg/YJG6j7p)

@culgin, the journey to the cloud is not always a smooth ride, as dynamic real-world factors—from cybercrime and organizational preparedness to geopolitical issues—have to be considered. In today's computing landscape, how should we define cybersecurity? Technology rules the world. In fact, corporations largely control the government. Whoever owns and controls the technology will "own" mankind. And they will have the power to identify, manipulate and disable any user at any moment in time. The internet was first opened up to the public as a "free space". Now who really goes on without entering through a portal? Tor is not really way around that in the long term, just a temporary alternative that will not last because it can and will be cracked. Who owns the internet if not the providers who allow you access? Sprint, verizon, etc. Think about where this is really going if corp's like Microsoft, etc. are involved in the technology on any level. As the technology advances more and more it will become integrated with the big corp's and become one of itself. Bitcoin will become the exact opposite of what it was created for.
