I was in the McPherson area earlier and spent about an hour at the coffee shop beside the MRT station. A simple snack and a drink were enough to keep me relaxed while passing the time. Casually watching the cars go by made me reflect on the past decade of my life, which felt strange because I rarely do that. Usually, I prefer to keep myself busy, which is why I signed up on Hive—to fill the gaps in my free time. However, at this moment, I chose to simply stare blankly at the view. At first, it wasn’t interesting, but I became so fixated on it that I kept looking for no reason.

I think these are the kinds of pauses one needs to appreciate life as it is and reminisce about past events that remind us of the things we can consider our treasures—memories.


As I mentioned earlier, I had a simple snack that, although not very expensive, was still satisfying. This is actually my go-to snack whenever I want something simple.

I’d say kaya and butter toast is my all-time favorite snack—it’s hard to mess up. While it’s not difficult to make at home, I still prefer buying it and enjoying it at a coffee shop. There’s something about the ambiance that makes it taste better. Plus, the nostalgia that a coffee shop brings adds to the overall experience.

Whenever I don’t feel like drinking coffee, I go for a can of oolong tea. It’s the unsweetened version, which pairs perfectly with my snack since kaya toast is already sweet. I also believe that tea is a healthier option, especially when eating something buttery like this.
