*Skin-flayed by the chill of possibility
of deathly monochrome insensibility —
of comet's-crawl — my corpse across the sky:
just one bright, wayward speck — what more could I
assert upon the gridwork of the stars?*

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I am that ember — I, that dimming char,
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;that burning goblet, melted by the drop
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;of magma that cannot be self-contained,
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I, that brimming grain for scythe to lop,
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and ground by mill, incessantly refrained.

*Consumptive song of nature — I, one strand,
one shaky warble, one decrepit hand
to scribble out the score for who will come,
attempt to sing my lines, and figure sum
of loathsome literary — sultry soul.*

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;So reckon what man-paradox enwholes,
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;what cosmic seeming-gap our peg fulfills,
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;what ocean monolithic swells by lives
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;half-human — through the strugg'ling an'mal spills
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;the current of the ego-slaying Word.

*Then speak it on when doom is at the door,
when sane becomes elusive and absurd,
the more despair encroaches, so the more
must I believe in passion of the crown
that carries reputation nor renown.*
