Friendship, love, knowledge… my school experience
Hi guys,
So this week’s contest says we should talk about our school experience. I got confused on if to talk about secondary school or university experience but looking at it, what shaped my life had to be my university experience. Of course my secondary school experience cannot be undermined but I’ll rather talk about the latter.

My university experience, I’ll say was quite the ride, because there’s was always the pressure of me trying to perform as a medical student and trying balance my social life, my relationships with people, my business, trust me it was interesting while at it.
I spent 7 and a half years in university because ‘medicine’ 😬, it was almost like it wasn’t going to end. There were series of exams almost everytime that anytime people outside school called me, it was like I was always writing exams.

# How it all started
Leaving secondary school, I was excited what the journey ahead had in store for me, i wrote exams for federal universities however, I got into a private university in Nigeria at a time when ASUU strike was on the verge of frustrating my life 😅 just when I was about going to a federal uni. I resumed quite late because it wasn’t planned, so my mates had gone many lectures ahead.
It was all so confusing, I had to find a way to slot myself in. My first day greeted me with a test in class I had no idea about, I was lucky not to fail.
Let’s fast forward to end of first semester exams which I wrote and at the end came out with a second class upper, I was really sad because my friends were all on first class, it was clearly evident that I didn’t find my balance after resuming so late. I was determined for my second semester which I did way better. Medicine was very competitive so many people were dropped after 100level, luckily I scaled through, thanks to God. Omo If I continue like this, this write up will never end lol 😂, so I’ll highlight some key things I took from my school experience

# Friendship
University was a place where I had very meaningful relationships with people and I can say, it was very beneficial. I made a lot of friends however, I made one of the best friendships in University. We’ve been together since 100 level, and we graduated together. We are kind of like a clique of 4 guys and the funny thing was how we used to uplift each other. When we wrote exams and results came out, you never saw our names amongst those that failed. It was a beautiful thing 🤩🙂

# Love
I’m usually not a person to venture into short term relationships and I’m almost always sure of what I want. I had my first ‘real’ relationship when I got into 200 level , like second semester. I saw this beautiful girl when I went for a gross anatomy practical, in cadaver lab.
*Talk about finding love in a hopeless place 😅*.
She was a nursing student and we were seeing each other. We ended up dating for 4 years, we had ups and downs, but it was a beautiful one still. We aren’t together anymore for certain reasons but I’ll say it was one of the beautiful things University gave me.

# knowledge
  Albert Einstein once said
> Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.

Of course, educating ourselves and gaining knowledge too is the main reason we go to school and I must say over the 7 and half year period, I learnt a lot, thanks to my beautiful lecturers. As a Med student you had to be on your toes because it was quite competitive. I just thank God that all through my university, I never had any resist examination as God always found a way to help me, even when I tried balancing my social life. I also came out with a few distinctions.

# My business
I wouldn’t do well if I don’t mention this, because school was actually where I started my photography business. Yes, it was really hard trying to balance education and photography but I somehow found a way and I made some money from it too. That was my side hustle. It was a beautiful thing to experience.

# Things I lost
Medical school, like many of us know isn’t a place that provides the luxury of too many holidays. My school, being a private university, also made things worse by being strict with it. I lost a lot of friendships outside university, i lost family time. I wasn’t opportuned to attend family events because it was either I was writing one examination or the other. When I eventually did, I couldn’t recognize my family people lol, so it was weird.
I lost many business opportunities as well because we were almost writing exams. I remember this particular business deal I lost because I was writing an exam . I was supposed to make a large sum of money from that deal but it was unfortunate.

Anyways, this here is my school experience. I hope you enjoyed reading 🙂
