![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmZuAUmzX4UFQnWQVXQ5F5at6BgvncRASyhrNP2DcYLdue/image.png)Recent research verifies claims made by Randall Carlson and Graham Hancock in the book, ["The Magicians of the Gods"](https://grahamhancock.com/magicians/), that 12,800 years ago, coincidentally the time Plato said Atlantis sunk, the Earth was bombarded by comets.

Professor of Physics & Astronomy Adrian Melott explained in a KU press release: *“The hypothesis is that a large comet fragmented and the chunks impacted the Earth, causing this disaster. A number of different chemical signatures — carbon dioxide, nitrate, ammonia and others — all seem to indicate that an astonishing 10 percent of the Earth’s land surface, or about 10 million square kilometers, was consumed by fires.”*

Of course, the article nor the research mentions anything about Hancock and Carlson's postulations of this nature in their 2015 publication which earned them the status of pseudo-scientist or "fringe" authors.  Nonetheless, this recent research does support the claims by Carlson and Hancock.
