365 Days That Count - Day 248 - Walking from the police station in the rain with a hangover, not ideal. But eating cheesy pizza & spending time with friends is pretty marvellous!🍕
####
I woke up feeling more than a little fragile and unfortunately wasn’t able to indulge my headache for more than a few minutes before having to pull myself together and get to the police station to report the latest robbery.

I’d got a lift there as the parking is always a nightmare and was about to catch an Uber back to the house before changing my mind and deciding a walk in the rain was just what I needed to clear my head. I was wrong. Half way there I started sweating vodka and seriously regretting my overly ambitious plan but it was too late so I put my head down and carried on, cursing myself the whole way. Having filled Terrence in on the details of the new claim and getting caught up on the plans for the week I went home to get on with some work for dad before lunch. **Em and I had met two lovely turkish girls the night before and in our far from sober state had made plans for lunch the next day, to all of our surprise, the plans stuck so we met at Burratta for pizza.**

####
Burratta actually used to be a tenant of mine and The Old Biscuit Mill - where it’s situated - was one of my most difficult yet enjoyable precincts to run.

My life has changed so much since I ran that portfolio and sometimes when I think about everything I used to do I don’t know how the hell I managed but the people were amazing, especially the ones that worked for me. I looked after my teams and they loved me for it. As I arrived I saw Clement, one of my old grounds man whose face lit up as he scooped me into a big bear hug before putting me down and taking me straight to the maintenance office to see Vero, the cleaner. A part of me is always very sad when I see them, they’ve been with the company for years but are so removed from head office that it’s easy to overlook their efforts. I did my best to look after them and fight for them. Every year my boss would cringe come bonus time when I reeled off the list of reasons all of my staff should get generous bonuses and increases. Even then it was hard to squeeze too much out of them and I know they aren’t being campaigned for in the same way anymore. When I first left I constantly got phone calls asking me to come back and complaining about the guys who had taken over from me.

####
I made them promise to send love to Raymond, who had been my right hand man at the mill but was off for the day, and then met Em and the others inside the restaurant.

It didn’t take long for us to decide on our pizzas, nor did it take long for them to arrive. Burratta is well known for it’s imported pizza oven that cooks at 480 degrees and only takes 90 seconds to crisp a pizza to perfection. There was very little talking for the first few slices as we all allowed the cheesy goodness to mend the pains of the night before. Then we chatted about their experience in Cape Town and how much we both wanted to go to Istanbul, they made us promise to do so and come and visit them when we do which I will definitely take them up on one day. Eventually they had to leave for the airport so we said our goodbyes. It’s always special when you meet people who immediately feel like friends. Em and I nursed our food babies for a little while longer till gingerly walking to the car, wanting to unbutton our jeans the whole way!

When we went to the machine to pay for our parking I saw Richard the Interpark manager, he was so amazed and happy to see me we both almost cried. **It’s incredibly touching to mean so much to someone and I am always humbled by it.**

####
He hugged me twice and refused to let me pay before making me promise to come back and visit more often. By the time we left my belly wasn’t the only thing to be full, my heart was bursting.

From there I went to my horse, I was too full to ride so was very quickly slobbered all over instead. God but he’s a happy, loving creature, it’s borderline impossible not to smile in his presence!

I filled Margeret in on the latest weirdness with Michael. We agreed men are just overgrown and very selfish children and that trying to understand them is the best use of the expression, “farting against thunder”, it’s just never going to happen! On the way home I popped into Tjarla to play with Zach while she gave me her two cents on how to handle his sudden and strange reappearance. We’d made tentative pans to see each other for a proper chat that night but when I spoke to him I could hear he was as tired as I was so I let us both off the hook and suggested we do it the following night. I needed sleep and wanted to have my wits about me when we spoke.

####
I was a walking zombie by the time I got home and, after a quick cuddle with the dogs, went straight to bed. The last few weeks have been utterly exhausting on every level and I’m seriously looking forward to going away!

Wishing you a day full of lightness and love!
