#  It's time to d-d-d-d-dddd duel!

**Wow! Never as a child would I have ever imagined that as an adult I'd be making a post on a blockchain that rewards me cryptocurrency just to talk about Yu-Gi-Oh!**

<sup>⬆️ Reading the above sentence still almost doesn't seem real.</sup>

*Yet here I am, about to tell you about how I played the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game. Not in person, but on my PS5.*

Where shall I begin...

In this video, I am playing a video game called Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of a Duelist, which was initially released back on 7/31/2015. An updated version of the same game with all of the DLC was released on 3/24/2020. Currently, you can find either one on the PS Store and other various digital game stores for around $20 and $40 respectively. I am actually playing the free trial version, which has some features locked such as the deck builder but still allows you to play many memorable battles from the lengthy campaign. This allowed me to, for the first time in years, experience the TCG that I grew up knowing and loving.

> Before accepting that I had to play the bare-bones trial version of Legacy of a Duelist, I first *attempted* to play a game called Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links. You can find it on iOS, Android, and Steam, but Windows only. This game is free-to-play and I was hyped to get to play it and start building my own decks. To my dismay, I wasn't able to download it on my iMac. I also didn't feel like playing a game on my iPhone or iPad. Luckily the Legacy of a Duelist trial, which I had downloaded once before but never played, was awaiting on my PlayStation's SSD once again.

<sup>I really wish there was a **play-to-earn** *NFT-based* card game that was based on either Yu-Gi-Oh! or Pokémon, which are the only TCGs that I played as a child. Sadly that just isn't the case yet. We do have the delayed [Pokémon TCG Live](https://tcg.pokemon.com/en-us/tcgl/) to look forward to eventually in 2022. That game looks freaking awesome, but we haven't heard anything about it being P2E. The same lack of P2E mechanics can be said about the **three** upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! games that were announced in 2021, more on that [here](https://www.konami.com/games/eu/en/topics/15967/).</sup>

Out of the three new Yu-Gi-Oh! games, I am most looking forward to Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, which is going to be F2P. This game looks highly playable. I'll be sure to include a gameplay trailer for Master Duel at the end of this post. It's coming to all platforms, including next-gen, so I'll be playing it on PS5. The graphics are going to all be in glorious 4K with a brand new UI, animations, sounds, and cards. I seriously cannot wait to get my hands on this one. It is said to be out this winter. That means it could be released anywhere from December of 2021 through March of 2022. Let's hope this one is available sooner rather than later.

I am refraining from purchasing Legacy of Duelist because we are so close to the release of Master Duel. This is why I am so happy that I am at least able to refamiliarize myself with the way the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG plays thanks to the trial. I needed this to remind myself that trading card games can be a fantastic time.

I keep looking at digital versions of yugioh and wondering if I'd enjoy it as much as I think I would. Now that there are a few, how do they compare? Have you had the chance to play more than one, and if so, which would you recommend?

Ideally, I'd spend more time playing casual matches (even against AI) than competitive play, since I just enjoy the mechanics and deck building.

Well, I have some answers for you. 

https://www.konami.com/yugioh/duel_links/en/ is a fantastic free-to-play game that is already out. I highly recommend it. Fully voice-acted and has some pretty good animations. You can build decks in it pretty easily. I just started playing yesterday and I received all sorts of free tokens to get free cards for my decks.

konami.com/yugioh/lotd_le/us/en/ is the best version of Legacy of a Duelist for consoles. You can even get it for Nintendo Switch now. It's usually around $40, but you can get the regular game for $20 or less usually, only the upgraded version is available for Switch though.

Try them both out maybe, or whichever works best for you, and let me know what you think. I'm highly anticipating these new Yu-Gi-Oh games that should be out very soon. I wish they'd give us an exact date.

I probably have not heard about Yu-Gi-Oh since years, but the physical Yu-Gi-Oh (and Pokémon) cards were very popular in my childhood (between 1992 and 2010). Pokémon is still very popular worldwide. Hopefully the developers of both of these games will soon introduce the play-to-earn concept in their games. Good luck and have fun.

I was born in 1992. I caught that same wave of hype for those two tcg. We have some really amazing looking free-to-play games coming from each one, but sadly doesn’t seem they are ready to implement play-to-earn. I wonder if this is something they can do once the games are already out or if we will have to wait for brand new games to be built many years down the road.

Actually me too. On 1992.09.17.

By the way, that is an interesting question whether the developers can add the play-to-earn concept into existing games, or we have to wait for completely new games. Since nowadays many games are receiving patches and updates, maybe it is possible to add the pay-to-earn concept into existing games. But if I think about the complexity of this thing, then maybe not, because there is a possibility that this thing would break the entire game, and the developers would have to rewrite that game from the beginning in order to make the play-to-earn concept work. So this is probably depending mostly on the game.
