The number of users/wallets or in some cases addresses in the crypto world are quite often a number to look at. The crypto xx has these many wallets, the crypto yy this many. Since blockchains are public databases the number are well known, except in some cases.

Let’s have a look at the number of users/wallets and see how they are doing in 2020. We will try to look what is the active number of users as well. 


# 1.Bitcoin 

According to [blockchain.com](https://www.blockchain.com/charts/my-wallet-n-users) at the moment of writing this Bitcoin has more than 47M wallet address.

In April 2017 Bitcoin had around 13M wallets. Now, after 3 years it has 47 million and growing. The trend is clear here. Are the number of wallets represent the number of people? No! The number of individuals having a Bitcoin wallet is most likely lower.  

How many of these Bitcoin wallet addresses are actually active?

This is also a 3 years chart and it tells a bit of a different story than the overall number of Bitcoin wallets. The number of active accounts follows the trend in price. Activity was highest in December 2017, with more than one million active wallets in a day. Now days there is around 600k active wallets daily. 

Note that the Bitcoin protocol, as a first of its kind is quite simple and makes only one type of operation. Transfer coins. The developer like platforms Ethereum, EOS, HIVE/STEEM, Tron, etc. that allow apps to be created on top of them have more complex structure and have a lot more operations then just transferring coins.

# 2.Ethereum

Ethereum has more than 93 million wallets. The double that Bitcoin. Quite impressive. Here is the chart.

The growth of the number of wallets on Ethereum is even more impressive that the Bitcoin ones. It has reached 93 million. Three years ago, April 2017 the number of Ethereum wallets was just above one million.

The number of active wallets is showing similar story as the Bitcoin chart with more than 1 million active wallets in December 2017, and somewhere between 300k to 400k these days. A bit lower than the 600k on Bitcoin.

# 3.Ripple XRP

Ripple has a bit of controversial status in the crypto world and it’s been criticized for its centralization and corporate structure. Ripple aims to serve banks for international transfers. 

From the richlist there seems to be around 2M wallets or 1,944,546 to be more precise [source](https://ledger.exposed/rich-stats), but I was unable to get the numbers of active wallets. I someone has the info please leave a comment. 
Looks like the number of wallets is quite small comparing to BTC or ETH.

# 4. Bitcoin Cash
Bitcoin Cash is on of the more popular Bitcoin forks that started back in August 2017. The number of wallets created according to their explorer is around 10 million [source](https://explorer.bitcoin.com/bch). 

The number on active wallets are quite small compared to that. Here is the chart.

The peak activity as for all the crypto market was in December 2018 with almost 400k wallets active per day. Now there is somewhere between 30k to 60k active wallets daily.

# 5.Litecoin
The Bitcoin little brother and the second coin that comes into existence. There is around 4 million Litecoin wallets [source](https://chainz.cryptoid.info/ltc/#!rich) with around 60k active wallets daily. [source](https://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/activeaddresses-ltc.html)

# 6.EOS

The fast Ethereum competitor, build exclusively for dApps creations. EOS has almost 1.9M wallets [source](https://eosauthority.com/). Funny enough I was having trouble finding data for unique active EOS wallets as it seems that some of the data providers have started to get some payments for it. Some of the latest data I found from April 2019 was around 93k active accounts [source](https://trybe.one/eos-state-of-onboarding-april-edition). Having in mind that the overall crypto activity has dropped since then I imagine these days it is lower than that. 
-	**EOS wallets ~1.9M**
-	** Daily Active EOS wallets ~60k to 90k**

# 7.Binance
Another of the corporate blockchains in the top 10. Binance has around 400k wallets on its chain [source](https://explorer.binance.org/) and a between 3k to 7k active daily wallets [source](https://coinmetrics.io/charts/#assets=bnbmainnet_left=AdrActCnt_zoom=1560267366491.9841,1593766855899.8274).

# 8.TEZOS
Tezos has around 450k wallets [source](https://tzstats.com/) and around 7k active daily wallets [source](https://coinmetrics.io/charts/#assets=xtz_left=AdrActCnt_zoom=1560267366491.9841,1593766855899.8274) although they wary a lot.

# 9.Monero
Monero is a privacy oriented blockchain and I couldn’t find data on how many wallets there are, or how many of them are active. If anyone has some data, please comment. [source](https://monero.stackexchange.com/questions/2371/total-amount-of-monero-wallets)

# 10.Stelar
Stelar has around 4.5 million wallets [source](https://stellar.expert/explorer/public) with a number of active wallets oscillating a lot between 20k to 400k [source](https://coinmetrics.io/charts/#assets=xlm_left=AdrActCnt_zoom=1560267366491.9841,1593766855899.8274). Lets put an average 200k.

# 11.Cardano
Cardano has around 180k wallets [source](https://adascan.net/) with a number of active wallets around 6k [source](https://coinmetrics.io/charts/#assets=ada_left=AdrActCnt_zoom=1560267366491.9841,1593766855899.8274). Lets put an average 200k.
-	**Cardano wallets ~180k**

# 12.Tron
Tron has around 5M wallets [source]( https://tronscan.org/#/) with a number of active wallets ocilating a lot between 70k to 260k [source](https://coinmetrics.io/charts/#assets=trx_left=AdrActCnt_zoom=1560267366491.9841,1593766855899.8274). Lets put an average 150k.

# 13.Seem/Hive

Steem and recently Hive have around 1.3 million wallets/accounts. Two months ago when there was still one chain around I made a dedicated post with a breakdown of the number of daily accounts on Steem [How Many Active Users/Accounts the Steem Blockchain Actually Has?](https://hive.blog/hive-167922/@dalz/how-many-active-users-accounts-the-steem-blockchain-actually-has)
. Unlike Bitcoin that has only one operation, transferring coins, there is a lot of types of operation on Steem/Hive like posting, commenting, voting, cutom json and transferring coins. The number of active daily accounts taking into consideration all the types of transactions was between 30k to 35k. After the split the active accounts on the steem blockchain dropped around 25k and on the hive blockchain there is around 10k daily active accounts [source](https://hive.blog/hive-133987/@penguinpablo/daily-hive-stats-report-tuesday-april-7-2020). Playing games on the Steem blockchain like Splinterlands is considered as active account.

Bitcoin is still the king in this ranking with around 600k active daily wallets, followed by Ethereum and interesting Stelar on the third place. Steem/Hive are also not doing bad if we take into consideration their market cap. This is by the number of active accounts, if we take the overall transaction by blockchain the picture will be different. You can find this data on https://blocktivity.info/ where EOS comes on top. 
Wasn’t able to get the data for Ripple and Monero due to its anonymous nature don’t have an accurate number of active wallets.
