Hi guys. I've been on the road for 10 days. I started my journey from Xanthos. This trip was a great escape for me, and as I travelled, I felt my sorrows diminishing and my lost peace returning. I sometimes take this route to recharge myself, and since I have my laptop and phone by my side, I feel at home everywhere I go, so I am not in a hurry to return home this time.

Sandland is an open-air museum where giant sculptures made of sand are exhibited. I visit this place every year. Because the concept always changes and new art pieces are made to fit the new theme, replacing the old sculptures. These sculptures made by artists from the world's different parts, are displayed outdoors for a year, exposed to natural conditions, and enchant their viewers. Of course, the idea behind this is that nothing lasts forever in a way. Sandland is a museum that reminds us how important the present moment is. As I wasn't sure when I'd be back in Antalya, I stopped by here in the short period before I went to Sagalassos to ensure I did not miss this year's theme and took pictures of the sculptures.  As you may remember, I had come across exhibitions themed on mythological characters and historical figures in previous years and I had shared my impressions of them with you in [2021](https://hive.blog/post/@damla/sandland-again-after-2-years) and [2019](https://hive.blog/post/@damla/gezi5sandland-kumehri-djdpxl3lss).

*Sandland kumdan yapılan dev heykellerin sergilendiği bir açık hava müzesi. Burayı her yıl ziyaret ederim. Çünkü konsept hep değişir ve eski heykellerin yerine yeni temaya uygun sanat eserleri yapılır. Dünyanın farklı yerlerinden gelen sanatçılar tarafından yapılan bu heykeller doğa koşullarına maruz kalarak bir sene boyunca açık havada sergilenir ve izleyicilerini büyülerler. Tabii bunun altında bir bakıma hiçbir şeyin sonsuza kadar sürmediği düşüncesi yatıyor. Kısaca yaşanılan anın ne kadar önemli olduğunu bize hatırlatan bir müzedir Sandland. Antalya'ya bir daha ne zaman döneceğimi tam bilmediğim için, bu senenin konseptini kaçırmamak adına Sagalassos'a geçmeden önceki kısa bir süre içinde fırsatını bulup buraya uğradım ve heykellerin fotoğraflarını çektim. ## Sandland 2023 

**This year's theme at Sandland is space.** I must say that when I saw some of the sculptures, I got especially excited and it felt like I became a child again. It was amazing to see sculptures of space vehicles, planets, and starships, as well as characters from many movies such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Guardians of the Galaxy and many others. I also enjoyed seeing sculptures of historical figures.

I was once again greeted by this veteran lion at the entrance. You may have seen it in my previous posts.

## Darth Vader

A great surprise for fans of Star Wars like me. Seeing one of my favorite representatives of the dark side in a huge size in front of me was very enjoyable.

Benim gibi Star Wars hayranları için çok güzel bir sürpriz. Karanlık tarafın en sevdiğim temsilcilerinden birini devasa boyutta karşımda görmek çok eğlenceliydi.

## Yuri Gagarin
One of the impressive and well-preserved sculptures in the museum. The facial expression of Gagarin, the first human to step into space, has been depicted very realistically. When compared to the little visitor who came while I was taking a photo, it is very clear how big the statue is. 🙂

## Saturn and The Planets / Satürn ve Gezegenler
Sculptures of the planets are also included. Saturn, Venus and other sculptures reflect the details of the planets. The famous rings of Saturn have not been forgotten either.

## Star Trek
Spock, one of the most unforgettable characters of Star Trek, was also one of the well-preserved sculptures I encountered in the museum.

## Guardians of the Galaxy
One of the popular sculptures in the museum is the one consisting of characters from the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Everything, from the costumes and accessories of the characters, has been thoroughly done.

## Interstellar
As a sci-fi movie fan, seeing a sculpture of one of my favorite films here has made me very happy. The sculpture is quite fascinating and reminded me that I need to watch the movie again.

## A Zeppelin/ Zeplin
A zeppelin sculpture that reflects the nostalgic atmosphere of the past.

## The Galata Tower/ Galata Kulesi
I was also very happy to see the sculpture of Hezarfen Ahmed Çelebi, who launched himself into the void by gliding from the Galata Tower. The Galata tower, one of the most important historical buildings of Istanbul, has been beautifully represented. Unfortunately, the head of the Ahmed Celebi statue seems to have succumbed to the natural conditions.

## Lightyear
The sculpture of Buzz Lightyear, one of the legendary characters of the movie Lightyear, is also quite remarkable.

## The Fifth Element
I came across the sculpture of one of my other favorite movies. The character played by Milla Jovovich has become a legend imo. The sculpture is very succesful.

## Columbia
The first space shuttle to launch into space, Columbia, has not been forgotten either.

## And Much More / Ve Diğerleri

Some of the sculptures have been worn out due to weather conditions. Such sculptures are either being restored or if the damaged parts are too extensive, they are completely demolished and replaced with new ones. The sculptures of Valentina Tereshkova, Leonardo da Vinci, and Neil Armstrong were somewhat worn out.

*Daha çok sayıda uzay temalı heykel sergileniyor. Bunlardan bazıları hava koşullarından yıpranmışlar. Bu tür heykeller ya yeniden restore ediliyorlar ya da yıpranmış kısımları çok fazlaysa tamamen yıkılıp yenileri yapılıyor. Valentina Tereshkova, Leonardo da Vinci, Neil Armstrong heykelleri bir miktar yıpranmışlardı.*

## Avatar & Icarus

While walking in the museum, I also stumbled upon the Avatar and Icarus sculptures. I think these sculptures may have been remnants from the previous exhibition with a mythology theme. However, since the concept is about flying, they are still being exhibited as they are not entirely unfamiliar with this year's theme.

*Müzede dolaşırken ayrıca Avatar ve Icarus heykelleriyle karşılaştım. Bu heykellerin mitoloji temalı önceki sergiden kalmış olabileceklerini düşünüyorum. Ancak konsept uçmakla ilgili olunca yılın temasına çok da yabancı kalmadıklarından sergilenmeye devam ediyorlar.*

The Sandland sculptures impressed me this time, because each one told a story and took me to a completely different world.

## Where is Sandland and Some Useful Information

Sandland is a sand sculpture museum located in the Lara region of Antalya.  You can reach the museum by your own car or by city bus. Since the ground is completely sand and can turn into mud during rainy seasons, I recommend wearing suitable shoes. Also, it is an open museum, if you plan to visit during the hot months, don't forget to bring a hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.

it is currently open from morning until 7 pm, but may vary depending on the visiting season. I remember that in the summer there were sometimes illuminated shows at night. The entrance fee is 80 Turkish liras, the museum card is not valid here as it is a private museum.

## Things to Do Around Sandland

Sandland is located on the Lara beach. If you come during the hot season, you can add swimming to your program. The weather is cold at the moment and it's not yet time to swim.

There are also very nice picnic areas right next to Sandland. There are barbecue units and sitting areas made by the municipality. Setting up tents is not allowed, but if you bring your own ingredients, you can barbecue here.

This place is located near the TerraCity shopping mall. If you enjoy to shop offline, you can also stop by TerraCity on your way back. 🙂 You can also visit the the cinema inside and watch a movie.

There are numerous places to eat in TerraCity and the surrounding area. Returning from Sandland, I stopped by the pizzeria on my way because I did not want to enter TerraCity and had limited time. I'm not someone who consumes a lot of pizza and fast food. I rarely come here. I decided to try the new Avocado and Salmon pizza that caught my attention. But I was not satisfied. Pizza was spicy. I like both fish and spice separately, but they did not work well together imo.  In short, I did not like it, so I decided not to share the name of the restaurant. I paid a bill of 230 Turkish liras. These prices are normal since it is a touristic area.

*TerraCity'de ve civarda yemek yiyebileceğiniz çok sayıda mekan var. Ben Sandland dönüşü TerraCity'ye girmek istemediğim için ve zamanın kısıtlı olduğu için yolumun üzerindeki pizzacıya uğradım. Çok fazla pizza ve fast food tüketen biri değilim. Buraya nadiren gelirim. Yeni eklenen Avokadolu somonlu pizza dikkatimi çektiği için denemeye karar verdim. Ama memnun kalmadım. Pizza acıydı. Balığı da acıyı da ayrı ayrı çok severim ama ikisi bir araya gelince güzel olmamış bence. Kısaca beğenmedim, o yüzden de restoranın adını paylaşmama kararı aldım. 230 lira hesap ödedim. Turistik bir bölge olduğu için bu fiyatlar normal.*

## Saying Goodbye to Antalya
After dinner, I went to the seaside to say goodbye to Antalya. I'll be on the road for now. I don't know when I'll be back here. Actually, this is something I do often. Traveling helps me rediscover myself. But I can't always find the motivation to share my experiences. I hope this time I can continue sharing the places I visited for a long time.

## *Antalya'ya Veda*
*Yemekten sonra deniz kenarına gidip Antalya'ya veda ettim. Şimdilik yollarda olacağım. Buraya ne zaman döneceğimi bilmiyorum. Aslında bu sık yaptığım şey. Yani gezmek beni kendime getiriyor. Ama her zaman paylaşacak motivasyonu kendimde bulamıyorum. Umarım bu kez gezdiğim yerleri paylaşmaya uzun süre devam edebilirim.*

A movie called "*Operation Fortune*", which was released recently, was filmed here. I'm not sure if you've seen it or not. The scenes that take place in the Marina and Kaleiçi are especially enjoyable.
