Crossing The Border

As you get close to the border you also get closer to Lanín volcano which starts to tower over you.  This volcano is interesting in that 3/4 of it is Argentina, and 1/4 is in Chile.

Before you get into Argentina you have to drive over the rugged terrain, and dirt track roads.  There is a surreal feeling to being in between two different countries, with no one around.  The serene nature, and monkey puzzle forests make this trip worthwhile.

On the other side of the border the landscapes become more expansive and open.  It's always amazing to me how countries are divided by geography and how different two countries can be.

<br>The Chilean side of this region is next to the South Pacific Ocean which makes it a much wetter and greener climate.  To get into Argentina you climb to a much higher altitude, crossing the Andes.  These mountains act as a barrier, generating their own eco system and climate.  The Argentine side appears instantly _different_.  It's drier, with different landscapes and trees.
