2024 : A Personal Reflection

What a year 2024 has been! As it draws to a close, I can't help but reflect on everything that's happened. it feels like a blur of ups and downs (mostly minor, thankfully!), and a few questionable decisions along the way. If I had to sum it all up, the most significant lessons I've learned this year were not the earth-shattering kind but rather a series of small, hard-earned pieces of wisdom.

*Lesson 1: Embrace the glorious mess.*

I used to be obsessed with having everything perfectly planned. My calendar was color-coded, my to-do list longer than my arm, and freestyling was treated like a dangerous virus. Then, life decided to rearrange my carefully constructed schedule. And you know what? It was kind of… liberating. Now, I embrace the unplanned detours. Sometimes, the best things happen when you least expect them. Like that time I accidentally discovered a hidden gem of a restaurant while trying to escape a particularly furious fowl(but seriously the fowl just kept coming😂).

*Lesson 2: It's okay to say no.*

This is a tough one. I’m a people-pleaser by nature, which often leads to an overbooked calendar and an exhausted self. This year, I've been working on setting boundaries. It’s like learning a new language, but a crucial one. Saying "no" doesn't make you a bad person; it makes you someone who respects their own time and energy. Think of it as self-care, but without the intimidating Instagram photos😁.

_Lesson 3: Failure is just a really fancy word for learning._

Okay, so I didn't conquer Mount Everest (still on the bucket list!), but I did try cooking a new recipe that tasted bad. And you know what? I learned from it! The key is to view setbacks not as failures, but as opportunities to improve.

_Lesson 4: Small joys are the biggest joys._

This year taught me the simple pleasure of a good cup of coffee on a rainy morning, a funny conversation with a friend, or the sheer joy of finally understanding how to use that complicated kitchen gadget. It's in those small moments that life truly blossoms. Think of it like a really well-made sourdough starter: it takes time, care, and maybe a bit of cursing, but the result is totally worth it.

_Lesson 5: Life is Short—Cherish Every Moment_

This lesson hit me hard recently. A close family friend, someone who had always been a steady presence in my life, passed away unexpectedly. It was a gentle reminder of how fragile life really is.

We get so caught up in routines, deadlines, and distractions that we forget how precious each moment is. If there’s one thing I’ll carry into 2025, it’s the importance of being fully present.

Call the friend you haven’t spoken to in months. Hug your parents a little tighter. Laugh with your siblings over old, embarrassing stories. Life is short, and the time we have with our loved ones is a gift we often take for granted—until it’s too late.

_Final Thoughts_

2024 wasn’t perfect, but it was mine. It came with lessons I didn’t ask for but desperately needed. As I step into 2025, I’m taking these lessons with me—especially the one about cherishing the people who matter.

So, here’s to another year of learning, growing, and occasionally failing spectacularly😊🥂.
