Logic as a study of the methods and principles used in distinguishing correct reasoning from incorrect reasoning. By emphasizing knowledge of methods and principles, this definition aims to underline the understanding of logic solely as a science. This definition does not mean that someone is automatically able to reason or think correctly if he studies logic. However, on the other hand, it must be acknowledged that people who have studied logic so they already have knowledge of the methods and principles of thinking - have a greater possibility of thinking correctly than people who have never been acquainted with the basic principles underlying every reasoning activity. By this it is intended to be said that a proper study of logic not only enables someone to gain knowledge of the methods and principles of correct thinking, but also makes the person concerned able to think correctly for themselves and then be able to distinguish correct reasoning from incorrect reasoning. This all shows that logic is not only a science, but also an art. In other words, logic is not only about knowledge, but also about ability or skill. These two aspects are closely related to each other. Knowledge of methods and principles of thinking must be possessed if someone wants to train their ability to think; conversely, someone can only develop their thinking skills if they have mastered the methods and principles of thinking.
