 The activity that I can't stand the most doing in my life is without a doubt dealing with the landlord, any interaction, literally... Because when something big breaks, like the fridge, boiler, etc., it's his job to fix it and especially to pay for it... So every time it turns into a war because he never wants to pay, because it's our fault if something broke, and because since we are the ones using these things we should split the cost and so on and so forth, and so it always drags on, with us having things that we need but that don’t work in the apartment and him not wanting to spend money (by law he should be the one paying for certain things I’d like to point out, we’re not the ones trying to be sneaky).  Then, the times he has to come here, of course he always has to comment on everything, like because there are those plants on the balcony that lose leaves and ruin the balcony floor and in the kitchen you should put the cloth under the dishes when they have to dry otherwise stains remain (the kitchen is unfortunately his, the only furniture that’s not ours) and to be careful because his kitchen is worth 5000€! But it doesn’t even have a dishwasher... In short, he's as pleasant and fun as a utility bill... Unfortunately, we can't do much except contain it and somehow carry on because there are no more rentals, houses for sale cost a ton of money and so we don’t have many choices... You'd not like Ecuador. There's always an excuse not to pay. So, I just fix everything myself, if I can. Luckily, I own all the furniture (except the built in closets), so that is not much of a big deal. I have a good relationship with my landlady because of that. She knows that whenever I call her about something, it's really serious and I can't do it. And since I do everything else myself and don't bother her too much, she has a handyman come quickly and get it done. There is the other side here though, too. I know a fair amount of people who rent out their buildings, and the stories they tell... Tenants taking all the light bulbs are the softer ones, the most incredibly was when someone took the toilet. Those experiences are one of the reasons I don't want to own, but prefer to rent, and be a good tenant 😅

I think it's common for tenants and landlords to not get on well, both have different agendas. I'm a landlord and like to think I'm a good one. Of course, it's a business and business decisions need to be made (within the tenancies laws) and I'm quite comfortable making them. I've never had to evict anyone but should the need arise, and the reason for it be sufficient, I would do so without a moment's notice because they're my properties not the tenants. In your case, "leaves on the balcony floor," and such things...it sounds like your landlord is an idiot. I always found it better to work with my tenants and not against them, provided they are fulfilling their legal obligations under the lease agreement. Now...don't you have some leaves to pick up? 😉

Yeah, I always think you need to respect that place given and take care for it, I also never delayed a payment or missed it, yet he does like that even after 8 years 🤷 Here it's hard to evict someone, if they have kids it becomes endless, you need to go to the court, make police come out and until the kid has a new home the family can't be removed... I guess that's one of the reason no one is renting anymore, people gotten lamer over years Haha I'm gonna take the sweeper now!
