At one time we would have said that it is difficult to predict exactly what the impact of new technology will have on medicine, but now we already know what some of the technologies will enable us to do.
The linked article (further below) takes a short look at three of these, namely:
- Robot-Assisted Surgery
We've all seen movies in which computers with syringes and other medical implements set to work on a patient with no, or very little, human interaction. Well, it's happening now!
- Medical Imaging
This is a costly procedure not just because of the equipment needed to do it, but also the technical and medical wisdom of the human operator.
It seems that "intelligent" computers will now be able to replace humans in this respect, potentially reducing costs.
- Drug Discovery
Apparently, instead of tediously trying to find drug treatments through (human) trial and error, artificial intelligence will be able to do it for us.
