I think a broad view of media and how we expose it using steemit will define a new structure for global news. 

Without a doubt there will be bias and contravercial events on steemit but thats the beauty of this platform and that is a voice to challenge or correct.

Truth be told, I started following you because of your #GamerGate interviews.  You went out of your way to give both sides opportunities to talk, and you didn't play favorites.  You were just as hard on those who were "pro-GG" as you were to their opposition. And that was a breath of fresh air compared to the other media outlets who did play favorites.  On both sides, I might add.

Admittedly, I may be "pro-GG," as it were, but even I recognize the need for journalistic integrity and neutrality.  And you, Mr. Pakman, did it right. I absolutely must commend you for that.

If you look into the ideology at the foundation of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies, censorship resistance and free speech is a major part of the core development of the technologies. One of the main goals is the decentralization of power, and many developers are working to make this happen. STEEM is the application of this ideology to social media technology. What that means for the media is that it provides a means for both financial independence and a censorship-resistant distribution system. If you're on Steemit, chances are that you've correctly recognized some of the inadequacies of more established platforms like YouTube or Facebook. In order for STEEM to survive, since it is community-supported, its members will always (at least in theory) generally trend towards doing what each believes is for the good of the community. And so even if we don't agree on politics, if your actions on here also work towards the good of the community (a definition which seems to depend on who you ask), then you'll always be amongst friends here.

I've been exploring blockchain and cryptocurrency technologies for the past year that have a specific media application for similar reasons that I think drew you to Steemit. In order for the media as an industry to be able to do its job well, or at all, financial independence is of the utmost importance. While corporate media has its own way of funding things, I think that independent media will migrate more and more to the cryptoworld as it becomes more apparent that this is a viable solution to our funding challenges.

Regarding your response to the caller, I think you correctly highlighted the need for greater media literacy among the public. Since the Internet is a more ambient presence in our lives now, this need is even more important.

Competition is always good. Independent media can create pressure that corporate media have to accommodate to. Conflict of ideas and opinions is good. Platform like STEEMIT forces people to think rather then being pure consumers. This may make us more educated and responsible. Just keep your channel going. Good luck.

As is the case with many of the live call-ins, I coudln't really care less about this caller's opinion about the issue.

You surrounded pretty fast what that guy wanted to say! I see a lot of people taking opinions like it's cold hard fact.

Is Media really independent ? I think most of the media sections have been hired by one or another.

Not necessarly the main reason for the existing of the problems . There is other ways to discuss the matter and getting to a point where the waves are cool. Personal opinion  and honest in the same time.

This caller is being too general. That said, having worked in the mainstream media as a reporter, I must say, they leave a lot to be desired. And I am talking about the reportage side of it, which, of course, affects the other aspects of a particular media house. So, for example, the fact that little or nothing was said about Pablo Escobar's son revelations (say on CNN) in his recent book, means, so often, that nothing will be said about it right across the board in that particular media house. 

And while I might not agree with much of what is being peddled in the independent media, the fact that the filters which exist are not coming from the corporate world means that I have a diversity of perspectives to sift through. The onus is on me to put on my analytic spectacles and make sense of what is being presented to me. 

That said, maybe if the mainstream guys were doing a better job we would not have so many people gravitating towards the alternative media.

@davidpakman friend, I think you're right, because in countries where the economy is not the best, the people in steemit seek economic independence, somehow that's what we look for when we ask for help and relationships with other people that they can vote our publications .. So, despite all that can be said, the sharing and relating, the people who are in low economic, we look for that economic support of all, especially of the most affluent. I blame Trump's victory on corporate television. Even Pat said that their fictional depiction of Trump on The Apprentice made him think trump was mildly competent before he learned the truth.

For me, this was the very reason to join Steemit in the first place. Just to support independent media (or better yet, 'the new media')!

What I also like is the fact that even when a post is deleted, it is stil on the blockchain.
So no more fake stories, that got deleted unnoticed and then denied by the authors!

Not only do a lot of Steemians agree with you, our Moms watch your show and are avid fans of you!

the World needs indepenedent media more than ever.. Mainstream Media is corrupted to the mere core. the news channels are corrupted, The regular tv is making people dumber, even Fb is used to manipulate the population.
