Coffee is Life

Felix was a young man who lived on a family farm, which was a family inheritance that had passed from generation to generation. When he turned 18 years old, it was time for this young man to take charge of planting and harvesting one of the main export products produced there, coffee. This was the only income that provided them with a living for a long time, coffee was the life of this family. However, the heat in recent weeks had been unbearable, high temperatures, fires, the plants were wilting and some were dying, the farm had problems with water, the wells were drying up due to the scarcity of the liquid and lack of rain. Felix will try and do everything possible to move forward with his coffee production.

Every day this young man had to wake up very early before sunrise to begin his daily chores, clean and fertilize the land, check each coffee plant that was planted, he had to do it manually, since they did not have the necessary machines. While her father, on the other hand, was picking the coffee beans that she was ready to harvest. This was her daily routine, it was always the same, in order to guarantee the sale of the coffee. There came a point where she would get tired, exhausted, but immediately she remembered that they depended on this and seeing all the money they earned when they made a sale of all the coffee was a moment of happiness and joy for the family. All the profits obtained were reinvested in the coffee planting.

Felix did not understand what was happening, since nothing like this had ever happened during all the time they were planting, it was such a stressful and desperate situation for everyone. However, his father explained to him that it was the effects of global warming and he had to be very vigilant, as at any moment the plants would start to die and they would have no money to live on for the next few months. The farm was so big that it was impossible to irrigate all the coffee plants on the same day, days would go by where some of them would run out of water, resulting in a drought.

The family began to have problems with their harvest, production began to drop, the sun was getting hotter and hotter and there was no rain, it was impossible to go out to walk around the farm. Suddenly, Felix's father began to have health problems, he was no longer the healthy and strong man who helped him. Now Felix had two more problems to worry about.

Felix was getting desperate because he had to take care of them, he did not know what to do, the water was getting scarcer and scarcer, very little water was arriving. Felix reacted and set as a goal to reactivate his coffee production, he had the knowledge that his father had taught him, all his advice and techniques to have a good production and the farm would be the same again. So he took a special seed and planted it in a jar that he had inside his house so that he could take care of it 24 hours a day, take care of it, fertilize it and give it love and of course that would be its fruit in the next few months.

One day Felix noticed that he no longer had any coffee plants left on his land, lush, beautiful plants, full of coffee, were no longer there, he only had bare, dry and hard soil. He thought that this would be the end of his family and for the next generation they would have no farm, no production and no benefits, all because of global warming. He could not stop thinking about those people who destroy and pollute the environment, they do not care about anything and do not see how many people are affected by this. The only thing they had left was that plant planted in the can, so I took care of it as if it were their child.

The sky turned black, Felix thought it was going to rain, but it was an immense cloud of smoke that covered him, he realized how the other farms around him were burning, the amount of ashes was enormous, he prayed that theirs would not ignite, otherwise his farm would reach that point. After several days the plant that he had planted in that can had already grown, it had some leaves, it was ready to be transplanted, but he thought that if he did so he would lose it, since it would not be able to withstand those high temperatures.

Felix had to act as fast as possible, so he took out some money he had saved for his studies, to build a small greenhouse to grow several coffee plants, something small. Felix had invested everything in order to get ahead and be able to live as a great coffee farmer and return to the great exports that they made.

Felix was very happy and content, as his plants had started to bloom again, his spirits were up, it was the most difficult time for the family. And all this thanks to a seed that his grandfather had given him when he was very young, since he had also gone through this same terrible situation of global warming and they were on the verge of bankruptcy. From that moment on, Felix understood that a coffee seed, sown with love, could change his life in a matter of seconds. That is how he happily prevented coffee from disappearing from his land.</div>
