Three Tune Tuesday・A Bit of Classical
Greetings and salutations Hivers. Today let's go into another Three Tune Tuesday post.

<center>![](https://images.hive.blog/0x0/https://images.ecency.com/DQmdW9mpRGGJcUgqSu3hVreFjpP9qCRfE3v7Bj1knBPLdCc/evening_groove.jpg)</center>

As always, thanks to @ablaze for making this series. Lots of people participate in it! Follow the tags to find a ton of good music recommendation.

Today, something completely different.

Usually I do Japanese jazz, but I have a headache today and I'm looking for something more soothing. Jazz can be smooth and relaxing, don't get me wrong, but I find the unpredictability of jazz to sometimes just be too much for me when I am in a bad mood or don't feel good.

When I feel unwell, I want comfort. I think all of us do. That is why often even people who normally eat healthy will feel the urge to eat some kind of comfort food (which is often unhealthy, such as candy) when they are sick. Comfort makes us feel better, which is exactly what we really want when our body seems set against us.

The best comfort music I've found is classical. Classical is often very very complex, don't get me wrong, but it is also more predictable than jazz, with a consistent theme that is returned to again and again. While it can be loud, the instruments are rarely harsh and are soothing just by themselves.

So for today, let's look at three of my favorite classical pieces.

Now the number one piece I very very often go to by default is Beethoven's Archduke. I love this piece so much. Close your eyes, lay back, and let the music surround you. But... [I've covered it before](https://peakd.com/hive-175836/@dbooster/evening-groove-three-classical-pieces), so let's try to pick something else.

<center>![][divider]</center>

If you are a fan of classical, the name Bach might immediately come to mind when you think of more relaxing music, and indeed, that is what I'm going to start with.

**Bach - Air on the G String**

This is something of a modern creation, actually. In 1871 August Wilhelmj rearranged the second movement of Bach's *Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major*. Many classical music aficionados dislike the arrangement, but it has remained popular to the present day and is commonly performed instead of Bach's original arrangement.

I like it. It is slow, relaxing, and powerful. In this clip Akiko Meyers & Wendy Chen play it for us and they do a great job.

<br>
**Arvo Pärt - Spiegel im Spiegel**

While you may have heard the last one, this might be new to you. This was written in 1978—a very good year (because it marks my birth). It was written for piano and violin, but the cello is frequently substituted, and as I prefer the cello to the violin, I am more drawn to arrangements that feature it. This song is sometimes used for sad scenes in movies, and indeed if you read through the YouTube comments you will find people talking about that kind of thing, but it doesn't suggest sadness to me, although it is an emotionally powerful piece. To me it is calming.

In this clip it is played by Leonhard Roczek and Herbert Schuch and they do a fantastic job!

Let's try the embed clip, but if they have it disabled, I'll put the link under it.

If that didn't work, [click here](https://youtu.be/FZe3mXlnfNc?si=sGVno9Avs43q_Nkh) to go watch it directly on YouTube.

<br>

Let's end with something a little more uptempo and maybe more fun than that emotional piece. Let's go with...

**Joe Hisaishi - Merry go round of Life**

If you have ever watched any Ghibli animation, you know the name *Joe Hisaishi*. He has supplied the music for almost all their movies. Usually his music has a heaping of nostalgia and a tinge of sadness, but not so with this one. This one, which was the main theme of *Howl's Moving Castle*, is pure joy and happiness.

It is played here by the Grissini Project + Curieux Orchestra. This is really wonderful.

Again, I think these guys disable embeds, but we'll try anyway.

I've always been more of a Chopin guy, but I am with you. I totally agree on the unpredictability of Jazz and something about the mathematical preciseness of classical to be soothing. I used to have an admin that would make kids listen to classical music as punishment, but I would have been in heaven!
