Still on the kind of joy only a fashion deisgner can understand...

The joy of receiving a positive feedback from a client most especially when it is in a picture form, a stunning picture of them looking radiant in a masterpiece that you created from the scratch, that is, from the design to the finishing. I recently received some beautiful pictures from a customer that I made a custom corset gown with a basque waistline for some weeks ago, and I must confess that I was thrilled with the result.

I love everything about the look from how the gown sits beautifully on her body and also the corset also gave the perfect snatched waist impression we envisaged in the design. But, before this masterpiece was created there are a lot of hours of work that have been put in place from taking careful measurements, drafting the pattern, cutting, stitching and so on. I remember working tirelessly on the dress to make sure it comes alive despite facing some challenges in the process.

One of the challenges I faced while working on this dress is that there was unstable power supply which made me switch from my electric industrial sewing machine to manual sewing machine at different times. This was a very frustrating challenge for me. Manual sewing machine does not make my work fast as I want and apart from that it tires my legs out when used for a long time which results in body aches. Well, I had to manage it throughout the process because I have a deadline to keep up with.

All the long hours and the battle with power supply were worth it at the end of the day. I was able to create a piece that made my customer happy and glow with confidence.

Let me share a quick process of how the masterpiece came to life. Come with me...

**Materials Needed**
- 6 yards Ankara
- 4 yards Lining
- Paper stay
- Hemming Gum
- 2 yards Chantilly lace
- Breast pad
- Breast cup
- Tailoring Chalk
- Matching threads
- Tomato trimmings
- Zip

**Step by Step**
- The first step is to draft your pattern on a paper by using your desired measurements. I used the following measurements bust 36", underbust 30", waistline 30", hip 40", gown length 58", bust length 14", half length 19". Then I cut the pattern and used it to cut my fabrics. I added 0.5" on all sides for stitching allowance. I added extra 6" after the waist to create a basque waistline. ![1000207914.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/debbie-ese/1000207914.jpg)
- Next use the fabric to cut your lining and iron paper stay on all the pieces. Iron breast pad on the lining and sew each piece together. Give the stitching allowance a good press and attach the cup to the main fabric. - Use hemming gum to attach the chantilly lace to the ankara fabric cup and attach the cup to the lower part of the bust. Next attach the yoke that will be used to form annie's neckline on the corset.![1000207916.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/debbie-ese/1000207916.jpg)
- Next, cut the back piece for the dress both the ankara fabric and lining. - Join the pieces together and shape it using the person's measurements and attach the sleeves. Your dress is ready.
