This is the series that I have been expecting the most this year. I have known about the Foundation books for several years because they are considered as Isaac Asimov's masterpiece, but he also wrote a lot of other scifi books that are great as well. In my case, I have only read one of his books called The End of Eternity and it was one of the best reads I have enjoyed in my entire life, it was also an amazing time travel story that I really hope gets adapted to the screen one day. <br><br>
Isaac Asimov had a very sophisticated mind that was way ahead of its time. The most impressive video I ever saw of him was the one when he describes the internet to a journalist who is putting a huge effort into trying to understand this revolutionary concept. Knowing how talented this person was, and also knowing that Foundation served as an inspiration to not only Star Wars but also Dune, it is very easy to understand why any scifi fan was excited about this series.
<h2><center>What was the series about?</center></h2>
The series takes place thousands of years into the future, humanity is now capable of living in different celestial bodies, and futuristic things such as cloning and extremely advanced AI are real. <br><br>
The key element of this story is a fictional concept known as Psychohistory, which can predict the future based on statistics on a macro scale. This means, it can predict the downfall of a civilization, but it cannot predict the actions and corresponding consequences of any individual. This obviously leaves enough room to change important macro predictions and I believe this is where the series is going. <br><br>
Despite how advanced these people are, they still have prejudices, superstitions, and they are even afraid of the free flow of information. There are religious groups, terrorists, and the people in power have some primitive fear when predictions about major collapses are made thanks to Psychohistory. I expected these futuristic people to be a bit more sophisticated but they even appeared like being from the past instead of from the future. <br><br>
The name of the series is Foundation because the creator of Psychohistory assures that in order to reduce the duration of the incoming black era where everything will collapse, they could create a repository of galactic knowledge so people from the future won't have to reinvent basic innovations. The goal is to save them time when they become capable of rebuilding civilization, and Foundation is how they called this important project. <br><br>
The biggest risk for humanity's survival is ironically, humanity itself. We will see a lot of corruption, lies, betrayals, and a lot of fights for resources. Despite their advanced technological level, there are still many groups of humans who are having a hard time and are still suffering traumas from the past. This will obviously cause a lot of trouble for other groups.

Esta es la serie que más esperaba este año. Conozco los libros de la Fundación desde hace varios años porque son considerados como la obra maestra de Isaac Asimov, pero también escribió muchos otros libros de ciencia ficción que también son geniales. En mi caso, sólo he leído uno de sus libros llamado El fin de la eternidad y fue una de las mejores lecturas que he disfrutado en toda mi vida, además fue una increíble historia de viajes en el tiempo que realmente espero que sea adaptada a la pantalla algún día. <br><br>
Isaac Asimov tenía una mente muy sofisticada y adelantada a su tiempo. El vídeo más impresionante que he visto de él es aquel en el que describe Internet a un periodista que se esfuerza por entender este concepto revolucionario. Conociendo el talento de esta persona, y sabiendo además que Fundación sirvió de inspiración no sólo a Star Wars sino también a Dune, es muy fácil entender por qué cualquier fan de la ciencia ficción se entusiasmó con esta serie.
<h2><center>¿De qué trata la serie?</center></h2>
La serie se desarrolla miles de años en el futuro, la humanidad ya es capaz de vivir en diferentes cuerpos celestes, y cosas futuristas como la clonación y la IA extremadamente avanzada son reales. <br><br>
El elemento clave de esta historia es un concepto ficticio conocido como Psicohistoria, que puede predecir el futuro basándose en estadísticas a escala macro. Esto significa que puede predecir la caída de una civilización, pero no puede predecir las acciones y las correspondientes consecuencias de ningún individuo. Obviamente, esto deja bastante margen para cambiar las importantes predicciones macro y creo que es hacia allá donde va la serie. <br><br>
A pesar de lo avanzados que son estas personas, siguen teniendo prejuicios, supersticiones, e incluso tienen miedo al libre flujo de información. Hay grupos religiosos, terroristas, y la gente en el poder tiene cierto miedo primitivo cuando se hacen predicciones sobre grandes colapsos gracias a la Psicohistoria. Esperaba que esta gente futurista fuera un poco más sofisticada, pero incluso parecían más bien del pasado en lugar del futuro. <br><br>
El nombre de la serie es Fundación porque el creador de la Psicohistoria asegura que para reducir la duración de la era negra que se avecina donde todo colapsará, podrían crear un repositorio de conocimiento galáctico para que la gente del futuro no tenga que reinventar las innovaciones básicas. El objetivo es ahorrarles tiempo cuando sean capaces de reconstruir la civilización, y la Fundación es como llamaron a este importante proyecto. <br><br>
El mayor riesgo para la supervivencia de la humanidad es, irónicamente, la propia humanidad. Veremos mucha corrupción, mentiras, traiciones y muchas luchas por los recursos. A pesar de su avanzado nivel tecnológico, todavía hay muchos grupos de humanos que lo están pasando mal y siguen sufriendo traumas del pasado. Esto, obviamente, causará muchos problemas a otros grupos.

As the story advances, the series focuses on several characters and their own journey. We will see a lot of time dedicated to 3 emperor clones, each of them with an age difference of around 30 years. This way, there will always be an old emperor, a very young one, and the one in the middle who is considered the prime version of the emperor. There will also be a lot of time dedicated to a character called Salvor Hardin, who is in charge of protecting the Foundation after its creation and will have to face some very annoying enemies. And lastly but not least, we will also see the journey of Hari Seldon and Gaal Dornick. <br><br>
There will be a lot of twists and surprises in this story and at times, this show was a delight, but it also felt generic and with a lack of intensity during some moments. All in all, I ended up liking it but so far I cannot say it is much better than other scifi productions that take place in the space such as The Expanse.
<h2><center>Main names associated with the series </center></h2>
The series had several directors but the person who directed the most episodes was Alex Graves. This guy mostly works in series and so far he has participated in a lot of great shows such as GOT, House of Cards, Altered Carbon, and many others. He is surely a director with a lot of experience in this industry. <br><br>
The series had 2 main writers who are also the creators of this adaptation. One of them is Josh Friedman, and this isn't the first time he works in a super production. In the past, he also worked as a writer in Terminator: Dark Fate, War of the Worlds, and more recently in Emerald City. <br><br>
The other writer and creator was David S. Goyer who also has a lot of experience in world-class scifi stories. Some good examples of his previous works are Dark City, which in some way is kind of similar to the Matrix but it was released one year before, he also wrote several Blade productions including movies and videogames, and more recently he worked in the series Da Vinci's Demons. <br><br>
When it comes to the cast, there are several important characters. The main one and the creator of the Foundation project as well as the creator of psychohistory is Hari Seldon, played by the popular actor Jared Harris. This actor has participated in several series in recent years, some examples are The Beast Must Die, The Terror, and Chernobyl. <br><br>
Another important character is called Gaal Dornick, a great mathematician who is supposed to work along with Hari Seldon, played by the actress Lou Llobell. This might be surprising but this is only the second time this actress participates in any production. The first one was a movie also released in 2021 called Voyagers. I gotta say is not normal to give important roles in high-budget series to rookie actors and actresses.

A medida que avanza la historia, la serie se centra en varios personajes y lo que van viviendo. Veremos mucho tiempo dedicado a 3 clones del emperador, cada uno de ellos con una diferencia de edad de unos 30 años. De este modo, siempre habrá un emperador viejo, uno muy joven y uno en el medio que se considera la mejor versión del emperador. También habrá mucho tiempo dedicado a un personaje llamado Salvor Hardin, encargada de proteger la Fundación tras su creación y que tendrá que enfrentarse a unos enemigos muy molestos. Y por último, pero no menos importante, también veremos lo que pasa con Hari Seldon y Gaal Dornick. <br><br>
Habrá muchos giros y sorpresas en esta historia y por momentos, esta serie estuvo excelente, pero también se sintió genérica y con falta de intensidad durante algunos momentos. En definitiva, me terminó gustando pero hasta ahora no puedo decir que sea mucho mejor que otras producciones de ciencia ficción que se desarrollan en el espacio como The Expanse por ejemplo.
<h2><center>Principales nombres asociados a la serie</center></h2>
La serie tuvo varios directores, pero la persona que más episodios dirigió fue Alex Graves. Este tipo trabaja principalmente en series y hasta ahora ha participado en un montón de grandes programas como GOT, House of Cards, Altered Carbon, y muchos otros. Sin duda es un director con mucha experiencia en esta industria. <br><br>
La serie tuvo 2 guionistas principales que también son los creadores de esta adaptación. Uno de ellos es Josh Friedman, y no es la primera vez que trabaja en una superproducción. En el pasado, también trabajó como guionista en Terminator: Dark Fate, La Guerra de los Mundos, y más recientemente en Emerald City. <br><br>
El otro guionista y creador fue David S. Goyer que también tiene mucha experiencia en historias de ciencia ficción de primer nivel. Algunos buenos ejemplos de sus trabajos anteriores son Dark City, que en cierto modo es algo parecido a Matrix pero se estrenó un año antes, también escribió varias producciones de Blade incluyendo películas y videojuegos, y más recientemente trabajó en la serie Da Vinci's Demons. <br><br>
En cuanto al reparto, hay varios personajes importantes. El principal y creador del proyecto de la Fundación así como creador de la psicohistoria es Hari Seldon, interpretado por el popular actor Jared Harris. Este actor ha participado en varias series en los últimos años, algunos ejemplos son La bestia debe morir, El terror y Chernobyl. <br><br>
Otro personaje importante se llama Gaal Dornick, una gran matemática que se supone debe de trabajar junto a Hari Seldon, interpretada por la actriz Lou Llobell. Esto puede sorprender, pero es sólo la segunda vez que esta actriz participa en una producción. La primera fue una película también estrenada en 2021 llamada Voyagers. Tengo que decir que no es normal dar papeles importantes en series de alto presupuesto a actores y actrices novatos.

The actor Lee Pace plays an important character called Brother Day, a clone of the original emperor currently during his prime age. Some of the best productions with this actor are, The Fall, The Good Shepherd, and Guardians of the Galaxy. <br><br>
Finally, we have the actress Leah Harvey playing Salvor Hardin. A character with some special qualities that are hard to explain without giving spoilers. She is extremely important for the first Foundation, and also has some excellent warrior skills. Some good productions where she worked as an actress are Les Miserables, Fighting with My Family, and National Theatre Live: Small Island.
<h2><center>How were the performance from the cast, the scenery and the quality of the writing?</center></h2>
The performances from the cast were very good, and the lack of proper experience in some of the main members of the cast wasn't noticeable. There were some characters that played typical destructive and villain roles and this felt very generic, but I believe this is more a problem of the writing than of the performance from those actors. <br><br>
The scenery was beautiful. There were several great-looking scenes, and the work they did in providing proper settings really paid off. Most of the scenes have normal looks by the way, but some of them are really breathtaking. <br><br>
The writing was acceptable but when taking into account the epicness in the story, there weren't many emotional moments included. I understand there are big changes between the books and this series, and I suspect this series must be a watered-down version of the original story. It was still quite good, but not as amazing as I was expecting it.
<h2><center>Final thoughts</center></h2>
Foundation ended up being a great scifi series that will probably be enjoyable for most people but it isn't the masterpiece that I was expecting. I see both extreme originality in some parts of the stories, and in others, I see generic events that can be seen in other scifi space series such as The Expanse. <br><br>
I will be waiting for the new season to be released, hopefully next year, but I am a bit sad this wasn't the groundbreaking production I was all hyped about. Nevertheless, I am sure most scifi fans will have a good time giving this series a watch. <br><br>

<h2><center>¿Cómo fue la actuación del reparto, la escenografía y la calidad de la escritura?</center></h2>
Las interpretaciones del reparto fueron muy buenas, y no se notó la falta de experiencia adecuada en algunos de los miembros principales del reparto. Hubo algunos personajes que hicieron los típicos papeles de destructor y villano y esto se sintió muy genérico, pero creo que esto es más un problema de la escritura que de la actuación de esos actores. <br><br>
La escenografía estuvo hermosa. Hubo varias escenas con un gran aspecto, y el trabajo que hicieron para proporcionar escenarios adecuados realmente valió la pena. La mayoría de las escenas tienen un aspecto normal por cierto, pero algunas son realmente impresionantes. <br><br>
La escritura fue aceptable pero teniendo en cuenta la epicidad que debería tener esta historia, no se incluyeron muchos momentos emotivos. Entiendo que hay grandes cambios entre los libros y esta serie, y sospecho que esta serie debe ser una versión aguada de la historia original. Aun así estuvo bastante buena, pero no tan sorprendente como la esperaba.
<h2><center>Pensamientos finales</center></h2>
Fundación terminó siendo una gran serie de ciencia ficción que probablemente sea disfrutable para la mayoría, pero no es la obra maestra que esperaba. Veo tanto originalidad extrema en algunas partes de las historias, y en otras veo eventos genéricos que se pueden ver en otras series de ciencia ficción espacial como la ya mencionada The Expanse. <br><br>
Esperaré a que se estrene la nueva temporada, espero que sea el año que viene, pero me da un poco de pena que no haya sido la producción maestra por la que estaba tan ilusionado. No obstante, estoy seguro de que la mayoría de los aficionados a la ciencia ficción pasarán un buen rato dándole un vistazo a esta serie. <br><br>
