One of the latest fantasy series released in the past few weeks was this one, The Wheel of Time. I really didn't know anything about this series, but it turns out it is based on some novels written by Robert Jordan and this is the first time these novels are adapted on the screen. <br><br>

The story has all the necessary ingredients to produce a cool fantasy production, medieval settings, mysterious and powerful magic, ugly enemies that are called Trollocs, which is the result of joining the words troll, with orcs, and of course, a scary and powerful enemy with a very ancient past and terrifying plans for the future. <br><br>

The production that I would say is the most similar to this one, is the masterpiece trilogy of the Lord of the Rings. However, even though these 2 could be compared to each other because they belong to the same genre and share some key elements in the story, there is also no way this series could be considered a masterpiece just like the Lord of the Rings is. That doesn't mean it cannot be enjoyed especially by fans of this genre. 

<h2><center>What was the series about?</center></h2>  

One of the main points of the series is a prophecy where a powerful channeler of magic powers called the Dragon Reborn, will return to Earth once more. This character has the power to either save the world or destroy it. It is the task of Moiraine, a skilled witch, to make sure our world isn't destroyed by this character. <br><br>

The Dragon Reborn isn't necessarily an evil character, it is simply a very powerful one and can be influenced by the real evil character known as The Dark One, to do some very bad stuff. Moiraine and other similar witches have a network of contacts that allow them to gather information for their missions. <br><br>

She arrives at a small village, and in there, she will find several people that she considers can be very important for her mission and decides to save them from an imminent attack from an evil army of Trollocs, who are looking for the same villagers. <br><br> 

This group of characters will then begin a journey through this medieval world, where they will encounter all sorts of enemies and these experiences will also allow them to develop their own magical abilities. We will learn about these witches, which by the way are called Aes Sedai, and we will understand how they organize and why some of them wear robes of different colors. <br><br>

The action scenes were kind of good, but sometimes it wasn't believable to see small humans who aren't even real warriors defeating huge Trollocs. Also, some scenes where we could see the Dark One weren't really that impressive. So far, the evilness in this series doesn't appear to be too imposing and intimidating. I remember watching the eye of Sauron for the first time, and that thing was scary, but nothing similar has been shown in this series so far.

La historia tiene todos los ingredientes necesarios para producir una producción de fantasía genial, escenarios medievales, magia misteriosa y poderosa, enemigos feos que se llaman Trollocs, que es el resultado de unir las palabras troll, con orcos, y por supuesto, un temible y poderosa enemigo con un pasado muy antiguo y planes aterradores para el futuro. <br> <br>

La producción que diría que es la más parecida a esta, es la obra maestra de la trilogía del Señor de los Anillos. Sin embargo, aunque estos 2 podrían compararse entre sí porque pertenecen al mismo género y comparten algunos elementos clave en la historia, tampoco hay forma de que esta serie pueda considerarse una obra maestra como lo es El señor de los anillos. Eso no significa que no pueda ser disfrutada especialmente por los fanáticos de este género.

<h2> <center> ¿De qué trataba la serie? </center> </h2>

Uno de los puntos principales de la serie es una profecía donde un poderoso canalizador de poderes mágicos llamado Dragon Reborn, regresará a la Tierra una vez más. Este personaje tiene el poder de salvar el mundo o destruirlo. Es tarea de Moraine, una bruja hábil, asegurarse de que nuestro mundo no sea destruido por este personaje. <br> <br>

El Dragón Renacido no es necesariamente un personaje malvado, es simplemente uno muy poderoso y puede ser influenciado por el personaje malvado real conocido como The Dark One, para hacer cosas muy malas. Moraine y otras brujas similares tienen una red de contactos que les permite recopilar información para sus misiones. <br> <br>

Llega a una pequeña aldea, y allí se encuentra con varias personas que considera pueden ser muy importantes para su misión y decide salvarlas de un inminente ataque de un malvado ejército de trollocs, que buscan a los mismos aldeanos. <br> <br>

Este grupo de personajes comenzará luego un viaje por este mundo medieval, donde se encontrarán con todo tipo de enemigos y estas experiencias también les permitirán desarrollar sus propias habilidades mágicas. Aprenderemos sobre estas brujas, que por cierto se llaman Aes Sedai, y entenderemos cómo se organizan y por qué algunas de ellas visten túnicas de distintos colores. <br> <br>

Las escenas de acción fueron bastante buenas, pero a veces no era creíble ver a pequeños humanos que ni siquiera eran verdaderos guerreros derrotando a enormes trollocs. Además, algunas escenas en las que pudimos ver al Dark One no eran realmente tan impresionantes. Hasta ahora, la maldad en esta serie no parece ser demasiado imponente e intimidante. Recuerdo haber visto el ojo de Sauron por primera vez, y esa cosa daba miedo, pero hasta ahora no se ha mostrado nada similar en esta serie.

In short words, this is a fine fantasy world with some cool stuff and other things that could get improved. All in all, I am happy they decided to produce this story in a series format, and hopefully, new seasons will be released in the future. 

<h2><center>Main names associated with the series</center></h2>  

The directors of the show were Uta Briesewitz, Ciaran Donnelly, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, and Wayne Yip. What they all have in common is that most of their previous jobs as directors are usually episodes in all sorts of TV shows belonging to various genres. I have noticed that in these industries there are 2 types of directors, one type is usually focused on films, and the other type focuses mostly on working in series. <br><br>

The series had 4 writers that participated in all of the episodes. Michael Clarkson worked as one of the story editors and this was just his third time working on a regular-length production. His previous productions were the series The Haunting of Bly Manor and The Feed. <br><br>

Paul Clarkson, Michael's twin brother, also worked as a story editor, and just like his brother, he doesn't have much experience working as a writer since this was only his second time doing it. His only previous job as a writer was The Haunting of Bly Manor where he also worked alongside his brother. <br><br>

Rafe Judkins was another one of the writers, and he has worked as a writer in several productions over the past few years. Some of these productions are Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, My Own Worst Enemy, and Chuck. <br><br>

The remaining one of the writers' team is Celine Song, who just like the Clarkson twins, doesn't have much experience working in the entertainment industry as a writer. This was her first time doing so, and her second production called Past Lives will be released in the coming months. <br><br>

Rosamund Pike plays one of the main characters of the series, a witch called Moiraine who belongs to a group of witches called Aes Sedai. She has an important mission to complete and the faith in the world might be in danger if she fails. <br><br>

Zoë Robins plays Nynaeve, one of the 5 characters from a small village called Two Rivers. They get scouted by Moiraine at the beginning of the series. This actress has previously participated in many series such as Power Rangers Ninja Steel, The Killian Curse, and more recently, The Brokenwood Mysteries.

Madeleine Madden plays Egwene, another young villager. This actress can also be found on the series Tidelands, Pine Gap, and Mystery Road. <br><br>

Josha Stradowski plays Rand, the love interest of Egwene, and a young guy with a lot of potential. He previously worked in the series High Flyers, and in the films Men from Mars and Instinct. <br><br>

Barney Harris plays Mat, Rand's good friend, and another one of the villagers who go on a journey with Moiraine. This actor has worked in the series Clique and more recently in the films  A Brixton Tale and Brighton Beach. <br><br>

Finally, we have Marcus Rutherford, who plays the fifth villager called Perrin, and just like the other 4 ones, he also has interesting magic potential as well as a key ability involving a particular animal. Some of the other productions where this actor can be seen are the series Bulletproof, and the films County Lines and Obey. 

<h2><center>How were the performance from the cast and the scenery?</center></h2>   

The performance was acceptable for the most part, but truth be told, when the witches are using their magic, their movements don't appear to be too comfortable and they also seem very forced. I also think the special effects related to the magic could have been better. <br><br>

The scenery was beautiful as is expected from any fantasy series and the creators did a good job with this. However, there were some scenes where the characters are exploring a dark and evil area, and it would have been better if there was better lighting during those moments. 

<h2><center>Final thoughts</center></h2> 

The Wheel of Time is a cool fantasy series but it isn't a masterpiece. It is a good option to watch for people who really enjoy this genre and the story certainly has the necessary resourcefulness to expand and allow the exploration of many more plot paths. This fictional world is very rich and should allow for many epic journeys across time. <br><br>

Amazon took the risk in bringing these novels to the screen for the first time and I believe it was worth it in the end. There aren't many fantasy series of good quality out there and this one certainly helps in filling that void. <br><br>

El paisaje fue hermoso como se esperaba de cualquier serie de fantasía y los creadores hicieron un buen trabajo con esto. Sin embargo, hubo algunas escenas en las que los personajes están explorando un área oscura y malvada, y hubiera sido mejor si hubiera una mejor iluminación durante esos momentos.

<h2> <center> Reflexiones finales </center> </h2>

La rueda del tiempo es una serie de fantasía genial, pero no es una obra maestra. Es una buena opción para ver a las personas que realmente disfrutan de este género y la historia ciertamente tiene el ingenio necesario para expandirse y permitir la exploración de muchos más caminos argumentales. Este mundo ficticio es muy rico y debería permitir muchos viajes épicos a través del tiempo. <br> <br>

Amazon se arriesgó al llevar estas novelas a la pantalla por primera vez y creo que al final valió la pena. No hay muchas series de fantasía de buena calidad y esta ciertamente ayuda a llenar ese vacío. <br> <br>
