The club's tournaments have all finished this past Saturday after the Champions League final and I figured it would be a good idea to review the results of all the major leagues and tournaments as well as discuss which players were the ones that achieved the highest performance. I will review Spanish, British, Italian, and French football.

Let’s start with the Spanish tournaments, which always have the same 2 major favorites year after year, Real Madrid and Barcelona. These 2 teams have been suffering from a lower than usual performance, mainly because their main players have been getting old and they have been a bit slow in renewing the squad and allowing younger players to lead the team. <br><br>
Barcelona managed to win the national cup while Real Madrid was left empty-handed, although at least they achieved the Champions League semifinal which gave them a good financial boost. The main Spanish team of this season was the league champion, Atletico Madrid. This team usually finishes in the third position behind Real Madrid and Barcelona, and this year was the second time since 2014 where they managed to reach the top. <br><br>
Atletico Madrid’s squad is younger on average than Real Madrid and Barcelona’s squad, and I believe this was an important factor in their big league victory. The best player in Spanish tournaments was Messi as usual. He was the top goal scorer in the league, and he also led his team to victory in the national cup. Messi is still achieving world-class performance, despite having already a not-so-young age. It will be difficult for Barcelona to say goodbye to Messi when the time comes, not only due to the emotional factor but also because he scores so many goals that finding a player with similar performance would be almost impossible. <br><br>
The best defense and best goalkeeper were Atletico’s. Oblak has been crowned for the fifth time as the best goalkeeper in the Spanish league with a trophy called Zamora, and this is actually a historic record. There are only 2 other goalkeepers with the same number of Zamoras but I believe Oblak will eventually achieve its sixth Zamora. One of Atletico Madrid’s main characteristic is having a solid defense and this year wasn’t the exception. If Atletico Madrid can keep this performance they will surely compete for the league next season too. <br><br>
Real Madrid needs important changes if they want to remain a competitive team. I believe it is imperative for them to hire a world-class goalscorer, and that is the only way I can see them competing for the major tournaments in the years to come. Without a world-class goalscorer, they won’t achieve many important victories in my opinion.

Empecemos por los torneos españoles, que siempre tienen los mismos 2 grandes favoritos año tras año, Real Madrid y Barcelona. Este equipo suele terminar en la tercera posición por detrás del Real Madrid y el Barcelona, y este año fue la segunda vez desde 2014 que lograron llegar a lo más alto. <br> <br>

This season was special for the British because for the third time in their history they managed to get 2 teams in the Champions League final. The first time was in 2008 with Manchester United and Chelsea, then in 2019 with Liverpool and Tottenham, and now in 2021 with Manchester City and Chelsea. <br><br>
British football has 2 teams that aren’t traditional clubs. One of these teams is Chelsea, which was bought up many years ago by a Russian oligarch and this is pretty much his own personal toy. Chelsea has become a very competitive team but they are always at the mercy of the whims of this oligarch so if he gets bored of football then Chelsea might return to irrelevance. <br><br>
The other special club is Manchester City, this is one of the 2 so-called state clubs in European football, the other one being the French team PSG, and this means they pretty much have unlimited money to purchase any player might want. Manchester City is the property of the Arab Emirates, specifically Abu Dhabi, and they have been the team with the biggest investments in new players in the past few years. <br><br>
The 2 biggest traditional British football clubs are Manchester United and Liverpool. They don’t have as many resources as the 2 special clubs mentioned above, but they still manage to compete against them from time to time. <br><br>
Manchester City has won 3 of the last 4 leagues so t is very clear they are the more dominant team of this period. The top goal scorer was Harry Kane, a great striker that currently plays for Tottenham but might leave the team this summer, and the best defense and goalkeeper were from Manchester City, the current champion. <br><br>
The main national cup was won by Chelsea, and the league cup was won by Manchester City for the fourth consecutive time. The United Kingdom, unlike the majority of countries, has 2 cups instead of just 1, this can be considered good because this means more opportunities for the teams to win trophies. <br><br>
I don’t see how the other clubs will be able to compete against Manchester City in the long term, so I believe we will continue to see this club winning most of the trophies in the years to come. If nothing changes, they will even surpass their more historic neighbor Manchester United. There is still a long way to go regarding the number of trophies won, but at this rate, Manchester City will become the number 1 historic team in the next decade or 2.

Juventus is the team with the most league titles in the history of Italian football. They are also the team with the worst case of corruption for paying referees to benefit them. They got caught, paid the price, suffered the consequences, and are now back competing as a normal team. Even though they are the team with the highest number of league titles, when it comes to European competitions, the number one would be Milan with 7 Champions League trophies won.
The last Italian team winning the Champions League that I have seen was Inter in 2010. It is clear Italian teams haven’t been very competitive in this past decade, but it is just a matter of time before one of them wins a continental trophy again. Juventus has recently reached 2 finals but lost them both. <br><br>
This team, Juventus, has been winning many leagues in a row, and when just one team keeps winning year after year, it might become boring so I was happy to see that this year a different team finally managed to win the league. It was Inter, one of the top 3 historic Italian teams They also had the best defense and goalkeeper of the tournament but the top scorer was Cristiano Ronaldo, a Juventus player. The national cup was won by Juventus so this team still managed to not finish the season empty-handed. <br><br>
It is surprising to see both Messi and Ronaldo still winning top scorer trophies despite their age. This proves that if a player is disciplined enough with their diet and properly takes care of his body, they can still achieve high performance at ages that weren't common in the past. <br><br>
Next season will be very different for Inter because they fired Conte, their coach, who I believe is one of the best coaches in football and this decision was probably the result of the troubled financial situation that Inter is going through. Conte managed to win the league with this team after more than 10 years without winning this trophy, so the decision to stop working with him is clearly not due to a lack of good results. I wonder if they will also sell important players but the summer is only just beginning so there is still a couple of months to go in the market. <br><br>
These decisions by Inter, make me doubt they can repeat this league's success next season. I suspect they are going to be a weaker team and Juventus or Milan might have better chances of becoming the new league champion.

In the decade of the 2000s, there was a team called Olympique Lyonnais, or just Lyon for short, that managed to win their first 7 league titles in a row. Their winning streak stopped all of a sudden in 2008 and since that year they haven't won this trophy again. This decade, the state club PSG managed to win 7 leagues out of 8 between the years 2013 and 2020. Their winning streak was almost as good as Lyon's in the previous decade, but unlike Lyon, PSG will surely continue to compete for years to come thanks to its extremely wealthy owners. <br><br>
This year was surprising in French football because PSG wasn't the team that won the national league. They finished up in second place and were very close but in the end, it was Lille who kept the first position to themselves in which was their 4 league title in their history. <br><br>
Just as in the case of Italian football with Juventus, in France it is good to see a league champions different than PSG from time to time. Lille also had the best defense and goalkeeper of the tournaments, and if you notice, the league champions this seasons were always teams that received the fewer goals but not necessarily the teams that scored the most goals. Only in the UK the league champion was also the one that scored the most goals but in the other 3 leagues, the champion was the second team with the most goals scored, not the first. <br><br>
The top goal scorer was Mbappe, a PSG player, which is one of the best players in the world despite his young age. This wasn't a good season for PSG, they only won the national cup. This isn't enough for a team that isn't only a state club but they also aspire to win the Champions League and they almost did that last season when they reached the final. Comparing last season's results with this season it is clear the team suffered a decrease in performance. <br><br>

I never understood why they fired Tuchel, who was last's season coach, but it is clear they were better with Tuchel than with Pochettino, who is the current coach and is also great but so far hasn't really achieved good results in PSG.
