#### Repository

#### Project Details

> Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform JavaScript run-time environment that executes JavaScript code outside of a browser... Node.js allows the creation of Web servers and networking tools using JavaScript and a collection of "modules" that handle various core functionality... Node.js represents a "JavaScript everywhere" paradigm, unifying web application development around a single programming language, rather than different languages for server side and client side scripts. | [Source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Node.js)

In simple words, this project brings value to the open source community because it facilitates the creation of all sort of applications using JavaScript, and provides a lot of help and versatility to developers, so much so that well-known companies like Netflix, Paypal, and Uber (among many others) use Node for their online services.

Since Node.js is very easy to learn and it provides a lot of benefits for developers, there is a huge community of people involved with it, which is one of the reasons why this project is available to be translated into several languages (in crowdin, one of the best translation platforms in the web, this project is available to be translated into 33 different languages, Spanish being the one corresponding to this contribution), the ultimate goal in translating Node.js is to make it easier for developers from any country to start learning about this project in their own native language.

#### Contribution Specifications

- Translation Overview

This is my #39 contribution to Node.js, and in the last few days the Spanish team has increased its % and now this project is 35% completed. Regarding the folder I have been translating, it is currently 79% completed, which means in this contribution I translated 3% of its strings.

Every software, especially those that have a large user base, will always have to be constantly updated in order to add new features, or improve the way it works, it is kind of a never-ending process where there are always new changes that must be applied. As its name implies, a changelog serves as a registry where every change that was applied to a particular version of a software is recorded and archived.

In this particular case, the strings I have been translating are about the changes that were applied to Node.js V6, and in total, this folder has 42498 words, which makes it one of the most extensive folders in the project.

When opening this folder, the first thing people will encounter is a list with all the different versions, there is not just one V6, there are several of them. We can see this list in the following image:

<center>https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmYzSTT2gKP1T7iSinZRnjJf6ybcEhcMUqYwCXjw9ayQwb/image.png</center>

After this list, the next thing we will encounter is the content belonging to each version. Given the fact there is so much information, the entire folder always follows a particular structure, it is not only divided by versions, but each of these versions is then divided into sections, and the strings of the most important section, the commits, always follow a particular structure.

But let’s first explain what these sections are: first there is the title, then we can sometimes find introductory paragraphs that help explain what is this particular version all about. An example of an introductory section is this one:

<center>![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmPiMZxPULih9j5ZAuyV6NYrvuPiG5Jwg6uhU8AfbdLBQN/image.png)</center>

Then, most of the time there will be a section informing about the most notable changes:

<center>![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQme5rb7E5bEopoz545yh2XUFdf9JYrgGbAmeaGimffKT4i/image.png)</center>

And finally, we will encounter the commits section, which is the most important and extensive section of all, because here is where the instructions for the changes are indicated. The structure these strings always follow can be seen in the following image:

<center>![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZtqxwKh2CRKCs7EfXHSBARJM3EytUEoPfSW9mFSUx3ae/image.png)</center>

These strings start with a link to the commit in GitHub, then it is indicated the area related to the individual instruction, then we find the instruction itself, always written with imperative verbs and in a very concise way, after this we can see the name of the person who proposed the change, and finally, the link to the pull-request from Github.

Below I added a few examples of this type of string that belongs to this contribution, as well as the Spanish translation:

English

> update build instructions for Windows

Spanish

> actualizar instrucciones de compilación para Windows

***

English

> remove unused files from <2>CPPLINT_FILES</2>

Spanish

> remover archivos no usados de <2>CPPLINT_FILES</2>

***

English

> improve error message in test-tick-processor

Spanish

> mejorar mensaje de error en test-tick-processor

***

When working on this contribution I was able to learn the following concept:

**Hook**: in computing, a hook will let the developer modify a particular software, so instead of running the default code, it can run customized code. The easiest example would be videogame mods. There are some videogame companies that allow the community to create their own mods to customize their gaming experience, one of the most popular videogames wih a thriving mod community is Skyrim. There are a lot of mods available for this game, but I will just add an example of the result after applying a mod that enhances graphics.

In the previous contributions, I included the definition of these terms: deprecation, I/O - input/output, callback, asynchrony, POSIX, parsing, path, wildcard, wrapper function, stack trace, floating point value, error-first callbacks, transpilation tool, root certificate, little-endian, DNS rebinding, same-origin-policy, keep-alive behavior, stringification, arrow function, salt (cryptography), semver, lint, fixtures modules, newline, backporting, shell command, ES6 Classes , code refactoring, segfault, tarball, benchmark, type-check, deflate, char, aix, spawn, rehash, noop, rebasing, continuous integration, linkify, segfaults, IPC, libuv, toolchain, punycode, symlink, base64, interprocess communication (IPC), application binary interface (ABI), read–Eval–Print Loop (REPL), advanced Interactive eXecutive (AIX), GYP, Opaque binary blob (obb), symbolic link, destructuring, dotfiles, transport layer security (tls), realpath function, watchdog, continuous integration, smoke test, hotfix, data execution prevention (DEP), try/catch blocks, off-by-one error, carriage return, ESLint, and hard code.

Hi @dedicatedguy,

Congratulations on your 39th contribution to Node.js!

- This is a very interesting project that contains many code values and terms related to computer science. Its difficulty relies on the fact that we must pay a lot of attention to the code in order to deliver the most accurate translation possible.

- Your presentation post is very well written and formatted. It contains all the needed information about the project and you included useful concepts you learned while working on this contribution, as well as examples.

- Your translation is accurate. The vocabulary you used is correct and appropriate for the Spanish language, as well for the project. Despite being a project mainly destined for programmers you have adapted to the terminology very quickly, which is awesome :)

Keep up the good work!

Your contribution has been evaluated according to [Utopian policies and guidelines](https://join.utopian.io/guidelines), as well as a predefined set of questions pertaining to the category.
