The United States *should* be almost the size of the largest (if not **the** largest) bubble on this chart of Active Hive users per Country in February, but for the fact that I haven't fully accounted for the myriad of ways US Americans represent their locations in their profiles.

Before I continue, please let me preface my rant that I do not fault users for how they choose to represent their location. The 'location' field in the user profile is not primarily intended for analytics, it is simply a way of representing your location (true or fictional) to fellow users on the site. In truth my frustration here comes from the complexity of converting data intended for humans into something that can be organized and parsed by queries in a spreadsheet. I expect it would be easier with the assistance of a Chat-GPT subscription.

... there's the fact that most US Americans appear not to even mention the name of their country in their location. They are more likely than people nearly everywhere else to just mention their state or even just their city. As such, the bubble for the USA in this chart only represents 272 users, where I suspect if I combined all the state, city and even broad US locations like "midwest" in the raw data, it could easily double that.

If you're interested, here's a bar chart of the top 20 countries in the same dataset. Also a usual caveat that most users don't have location data in their profiles at all.

It is quite noteworthy that 5 South American countries are present in the top 20, despite the fact that South America only has 1 country among the top 20 most populace in the world (Brazil). Hive's center of gravity is moving ever more towards South America.
