Rather spur of the moment, Mrs. Denmarkguy and I decided to join a friend to spend a day in the woods and on the coast. It wasn't on our schedules... but we really needed a day away! Besides, it is mushroom season around here, and we have finally had some rain after a very long dry spell. We left at around 7:00am, this morning.  *Land of many streams and waterfalls...* We spent the first half of the day wandering trails in the Hoh Rainforest — arguably the wettest place in North America — enjoying the scenery of a rare sunny day and gathering chanterelle mushrooms. It was always one of my favorite fall activities when I was a kid growing up in Denmark... but it has been many years since I last went.  *Chanterelle mushrooms from today's outing* We were pretty successful and came back with about 12lbs (a little over 5 kilos) of these lovely delicacies! Then we headed on to the Pacific Coast beach at Mora... one of Washington State's wild and very beautiful beaches. Aside from enjoying the scenery, we picked up quite a few interesting rocks.  *Rialto Beach in the afternoon sun* All in all, it was just a lovely day to get away.... and we finally made it back home around 9:30pm.
