Coming to you live from my laptop, this evening...

... after spending a somewhat frustrating day troubleshooting my primary desktop work computer, which has decided to start throwing me error messages and then go completely blank. Which is really not a very good deal in my world, since I make my *"living"* (hah!) largely from online activities... many of them on sites like eBay and Etsy.

So, I had to admit defeat.. and resign myself to working with *inadequate resources* for a few days while the *"big"* computer goes to the *"nerd shop"* for a diagnosis and hopefully a fix. Or else I will be getting a new computer for Christmas... which is *really* not something I want!

## *Life in Simpler Times...*

Suddenly *being without* reminded me that I actually grew up in a time when there was no Internet; no cell phones... and life moved a lot more slowly.

To be honest, simply sitting down earlier and taking time to *read* the paper edition of National Geographic for an hour or so was a welcome change of pace. There are those who like to talk about *"the Good Old Days"* but I am not one of them, but I *can* say that I remember days that were *simpler* than our lives today.

Mostly, I remember a time when less of our time was required for the business of making it through the day: Our lists of monthly bills were shorter, and the number of hours we had to spend toiling to *pay* for those bills were fewer.

## *Covid and the Potential for Re-Set*

I have read a lot of articles talking these times being part of a *"Great Reset"* and whereas it seems a little unclear to me what the exact *nature* of this reset might be, I have little doubt that all this time we're spending *"outside our normal routines"* can serve as an invitation to *slow down* and take a little time to re-examine what is *really* important to us.

One of the things I've noticed among people who are normally quite *career driven* is the sudden realization that the *people* in their lives — whom they'd previously been *"too busy"* to spend much time with — actually are *really* important... and far *more* important than all that effort being put into the next new Mercedes they are going to buy.

*"Stuff"* tends to offer pretty cold comfort, when we come closer to looking at our own mortality.

And I am reminding myself of that, as well... as I will be spending a few days with less computer access. I hope others will *also* take a moment or two to just *breathe in and breathe out!*
