In my opinion, it's basically fucked up. Just in my lifetime, the goalposts for what we consider "successful" has changed considerably. Success used to be something you could achieve through hard work and determination... now it is more like a "lottery" because you either have to *inherit* a fortune, or invent something that sells millions. The notion of "the quiet millionaire next door" is no longer a measure of success; in fact that person is now an "underachiever." We even have the President of the US of A coming off having a fairly well watched TV show that espouses precisely those values. YOU'RE FIRED! (because you didn't throw your competitor under the bus...)
