### *CARLA - PART TWO*

Months Later...

Night had fallen and the crickets chirped loudly. The full moon brightened the cloudy sky. 

Over the groves, the valleys, passed the streams and gulleys, a gate towered in the midst of the trees, fences round about it. 
 
Behind it, a house, the size of a mansion, built from fired bricks and covered in wall flowers stood tall and proud on enormous land. The three story building was in every way intimidating as the light of the moon seemed to run away from it, leaving it in a fog of darkness. 

Footsteps atop the roof reveals a shirtless man in combat pants. His strides are graceful and almost dangerous, elusive with an air of arrogance about him. 

Thick muscles ripple with his movements as he crouches, glowing blue eyes gazing into the dark, his nose scrunched up in disgust. 

Krane, Alpha of the Shadow Pack, pulled back on his feet, rolling his neck as the pungent smell of rogues assaulted him. With a deep breath, he leaped off the roof, landing steadily on his two feet.

His beta, Alistair, approached him. He too, was shirtless and moved with an authority owned by a man of his caliber. 

However, he seemed docile in comparison to the Alpha who was without a doubt, a mountain of a man. 

"You find anything?" Alistair asked 

"No. But I did smell them."

"Me too. They aren't within the walls but they aren't far off either. Roaming about most likely." 

"Are the others in position?" Krane asked, never taking his eyes away from the gate.

"Yes. Gerome is quite in the mood tonight." Alistair replied

Krane's lips tugged up in a small smile at the thought of his Gamma, who was more of a tyrant if anything. They'd all been disturbed by the smell that never seems to go away. This would be the third time in three weeks that they've encountered the unseen. Whoever it was kept lurking. Whatever the person wanted wasn't known yet. But Krane was sure that it would be nothing good. 

His fangs elongated as his wolf stirred within him, hungry for blood. 

Just as his thoughts ventured too far, Alistair tapped him. Krane gave him a side glance. 

"Any progress?" Alistair asked and gestured towards the house. 

Krane understood the question. It had been months since he found her. His mate. Still, she is as resistant as she was all those months ago. He clearly feels the pull of their attraction, he's just not sure she feels it too. 

"As progressive as an ant in water." 

Alistair laughed clearly enjoying his friend's misery. 

"You laugh now. I hope when you find her, she'd be receptive and not human." 

This shut Alistair up. His eyebrows furrowing in thought. The last thing he wanted was a mate like the Alpha's. But who was he to decide for the moon goddess? She can be a little...crazy. 

"I just don't get it." Krane bit out, his palms turning to fists. "Why a human? Why not anyone from the pack? Or even outside it?" Krane continued.

"Technically, she is outside and not from the pack." Alistair said with his hand stroking an imaginary beard as though in deep thought. 

Krane glared as his best friend. Alistair laughed and tapped his shoulder as a way of showing comfort. 

"Easy man. She'll come around. You ripped her from her first love afterall." 

Krane growled, not happy at all with that statement. This just made the situation more funnier to Alistair who laughed as he sauntered off.

Krane headed for the stairs towards his bedroom when a sound from the kitchen drew his attention. Even before that, her scent spoke to him. Like a sheep led to the slaughter, he let his feet carry him towards her. His wolf whimpered, urging him to move faster. 

She was facing the window, staring at the moon most likely. She always does. He can't help but wonder what runs through her mind at the time. What does she think about? Life? Home? Him? 

His muscles tensed at the last thought, the strings of jealousy tugging at his senses. 

"You should be asleep." He said.

Carla tensed at his voice. Her mind and body at war with each other. She shouldn't be excited at hearing him speak, that deep gravelly voice shouldn't be doing things to her insides. Yet, goosebumps broke out on her body at his words. 

She turned, preparing to glare at him but stopping short. Her mind going blank. He was shirtless! 

His ripped pecs and toned abs was truly a sight to behold. His broad shoulders and wide biceps made her mouth water. She should stop ogling. She tried to stop but once again, the mind and body are at war. 

Krane cleared his throat trying his utmost best not to loose control under her scrutiny. She was tiny compared to him but the way her eyes heated up made him feel like she had all the power. Cane, his wolf, stirred again. Wanting all she could offer, all she represents. 

He hadn't meant to embarrass her, he enjoyed her interest. It proved that she wasn't immune afterall. 

But Carla felt differently. Her nose flared and her cheeks flushed from humiliation.

Her eyes narrowed to slits as she glared at him. He was such a jerk! 

Without a word, she moved to leave the kitchen, nervous that she'd have to go past him but not scared of him. 

On instinct, Krane grabbed her by her forearm. 

"Don't walk away from me." His voice took an edge that shook her but she refused to back down. Squaring her shoulders as she looked up at him. 

"Let go of me. You're not God." She spat, ignoring the delicious tingles his palm left on her flesh. 

"I am you god Carla. Watch it!" He snapped. He was getting angry and he had to tone it down but she can be really frustrating. 

The tension rose between them, crackling and zapping like strokes of lightning. 

A stubborn woman and a stubborn man. Who would back down first?
