Tras tres meses utilizando Ubuntu como sistema operativo principalmente en una vieja laptop con procesador Celeron y 4GB de RAM, debo admitir que la experiencia no era del todo satisfactoria, si bien el sistema operativo funcionaba, se notaba una lentitud considerable en tareas básicas como navegar por internet o abrir aplicaciones. Esta situación me impulsó a buscar alternativas que pudieran revivir a mi fiel compañera.

Mi investigación me llevó a Linux Mint, una distribución de Linux basada en Ubuntu pero con un entorno gráfico diferente y optimizado para equipos con recursos aún más limitados, las críticas positivas sobre su fluidez y rendimiento me convencieron de probarla. La instalación fue sencilla y rápida, tras reiniciar la laptop, me encontré con un entorno gráfico XFCE de apariencia simple y minimalista, pero con una organización intuitiva y un menú de aplicaciones completo.

Lo que más me sorprendió fue la notable mejora en el rendimiento, la laptop, que antes se sentía lenta y pesada, ahora respondía con rapidez y fluidez, pude abrir varias pestañas en el navegador, ejecutar múltiples programas y realizar tareas simultáneas sin experimentar caídas de velocidad o congelamientos.

Sin embargo, debo admitir que la interfaz XFCE me resultó menos atractiva que la de Ubuntu, aunque funcional, carece de algunos elementos decorativos y transiciones que la hacen más moderna y visualmente agradable, además, algunas configuraciones y ajustes requieren un poco más de esfuerzo para encontrarlas.

A pesar de estas pequeñas diferencias, estoy gratamente satisfecho con la experiencia general de Linux Mint, siento que he logrado revivir mi laptop antigua y brindarme un sistema operativo fluido, estable y eficiente, la diferencia en rendimiento es realmente notable y me permite utilizar mi equipo para las tareas diarias sin tantas frustraciones.

En este momento, llevo pocos días  utilizando Linux Mint y mi impresión es muy positiva, continuaré explorando las diferentes opciones de configuración y personalización para adaptarlo a mis preferencias.

Muy buena elección de Mint con XFCE. Es cierto que por defecto es algo poco atractivo pero lo puedes personalizar a tu gusto, no es muy complicado. Otra buena elección hubiese sido Mint pero LMDE que es una versión basada en Debian directamente. Leí en los comentarios sobre Debian, es una gran distro, la madre de las .deb, es cierto que requiere algo de trabajo al principio pero luego que configuras es una roca y durante la instalación puedes elegir el entorno de escritorio que desees.

Interesante tu recomendación, escogí esta distro de Linux mint en concreto porque es la distro más ligera y la idea es darle algo más de vida a mi vieja laptop, ahora que pruebe por unos meses está distro después instalaré debian, me llama mucho la atención! Saludos bro!

La más ligera puede ser, Xfce está enfocado para eso, pero pudiera ser un ArchLinux que sólo te instala estrictamente lo necesario y obtienes un sistema bastante optimizado. Debian es otra excelente opción pero puede tener sus complicaciones y nos cuentas, con Linux no te vas a aburrir,

Ya tengo poco más de una semana en Linux mint y la verdad es cuestión de constumbre, Justo ahora no me quejo de la distro porque ya la personalicé y me siento cómodo en ella, es fluida y mi laptop no se calienta mucho, lo único negativo que tengo que opinar es que no deja instalar snap 😅

Hola amigo excelente que puedas probar un sistema más operativo como el Linux Mint, es muy bueno para los equipos con pocos recursos. Lo bueno de los sistemas de software libre es que si no te agrada tanto el entorno de escritorio puedes cambiarlo por uno más "amigable" por ejemplo el KDE. Buen post saludos y bendiciones.

Hola, Linux Mint es una buena distro, suelo usarla cuando me enfado de Kubuntu o de Debian. Me gusta usarlo con el escritorio Cinnamon o Mate, porque XFCE se me hace muy rústico, aunque entiendo que va bien para PC's de bajos recursos. Anímate a utilizar el escritorio Mate, es una buena alternativa.

Me interesa mucho Debian, no lo he probado porque los usuarios dicen que puede ser algo desafiante para los usuarios nuevos, gracias por la recomendación, intentaré cambiar el entorno gráfico, no me molesta el actual pero  quiero  aprender a hacerlo jajaja, saludos!

Debian es muy buena distro, suele ser la que más uso, pero por cuestiones de compatibilidad con ciertos softwares, uso actualemnte Kubuntu. Linux es para aprender y comenzar a jugar con las configuraciones, una vez le agarras el modo se vuelve muy "intuitivo" el manejo.
