Great post ! >To get Bitshares with open.STEEM a STEEM derivative on the Bitshares decentralized exchange. open.STEEM is not a derivative, it is the same as steem on poloniex only it is secured by openledger (IOU). bitSTEEM (like bitGOLD) is a derivative, if it doesn't exist yet, go ahead and create it on Bitshares :)

When I create a smartcoin and I write ok smartcoin is pegged to the price of xyz how to tell witness to get me a price feed or do they auto do it?

Convince them that it is in their interest to do so. What is in the interest of the platform is also in their interest. They are paid in shares of this platform :D Publishing a pricefeed that is available on the internet is not that hard for them. In addition, not all witnesses are needed to produce a feed for it be valid, you can specify the minimum number of feeds you desire.
