Crypto security: you can't eat your cake and have it

I'm sad, for over 3 years since I've been in the crypto game, I've heard about hacks, cracks and stolen cryptocurrencies just disappearing in the wind and ending up dumped on the market.

When coming into crypto, one of the first things that caught my mind was the fact that most cryptocurrencies didn't have a recovery  option. Basically, once you lost your funds or your accs were compromised, that was it, you were no longer safe.

The luxury of security and recovery options  we enjoyed with centralized systems like banks, seem to be at off with the purpose of cryptocurrencies.

See, the problem is, for someone to be able to change your password remotely or give you your password in case you forgot it, it means they have a database somewhere with your information on it. This contradics the mission of blockchain tech, which is to get rid of 3rd parties who handles our data and information.

So how then do we solve this problem?

A fellow steemian is currently in a bit of a hook, with 18k Steem on the line, his account is on the line and due to the complex nature of password recovery and all in steemit(being a crypto project) it's seeming impossible to recover the funds or even stop the attacker from moving the funds.

Can we brainstorm ways that may fix this issue of no recovery option?
