I changed password week ago, wrote it on paper and lost it.

Don't worry you'll make a lot more in the days to come for sure. It's easy to get disheartened around here for various reasons but keep your chin up about the hacks. This things are common as much as we wished they weren't!

I actually saw that @ned downvoted your post and made a blog post about it cause it seemed fishy to me. But good to hear that all is good and we can move on :)

Question for the masters. If my account is only five days old, is it under any threat or was the exploit already fixed?

I doubt this was because you did not change your password.

Were you using your owner or active key for daily stuff before?

How good was your password? Was it randomly-generated?

To give you an example, my password is 500+ characters..

I would write a post aimed at complete beginners about all this stuff, but others have pretty much covered everything else already.

To anyone reading: If your password is not a giant randomly generated string that no human can possibly remember, your account is at risk of being cracked, now or in the future.

Also, **do not use** your OWNER or ACTIVE key in day to day activities.

Finally, with the growth of steemit, you can bet that computer viruses will begin targeting well-off steemit users .. there is some stuff like this for bitcoin wallets already (totally expected).

The non-technical people here, particularly those who are banking some serious cash from steemit, need to learn the basics and a little more than that - there is no way around it.

I will do my best to help you all in this endeavor. But some bad habits *will* need to be changed.

Cryptoland is a crazy place. Just remember, like I said in my recent article... Focus on the things that are important.

So sorry that this happened to you. I changed my password just yesterday. Had been procrastinating myself. We all need to be super secure. I am sure the Steem team is doing their best to prevent any attacks but we must be cautious too! Cheers! :)
