<p>"<em><b>J2, Maymies, name of Thomas</b></em>" it was fun picking up from this former nightclub. Everything from punch-ups <em>"You looking at my bird?!"</em> to snogging and of course people claiming to be your fare: <em>"What name you after mate?"</em> when you first start cabbing, everyone makes the mistake of blurting out the name you're there to collect. From your point of view you just want to get away from this drunken mass swirling around the car park as quickly as possible and from their point of view, for the most part, they just want to get home so they'll pretend to be who you're looking for or in some cases offer you 'things' 😉 to take them.</p>

<p><em>"Taxi for Thomas?"</em> said a woman. They appeared to be in their late 30s' and seemed to have had a good night. We set off towards a place called Pelsall. When we arrived at the destination, the couple had the obligatory goodbye snog, and quick fumble on the back seat and then the woman got out and walked down the road. Her fellow passenger and I watched her walk roughly four doors along and enter a house.</p>
<p><em>"Drive to the end of the road and turn right, mate."</em> said the guy she was with. <em>"At the end of this road, turn right."</em> he responded as we neared the end of the road. <em>"Follow this and then do a right."</em> came the next instruction; I was beginning to sense something. We were headed back to where we had come from? <em>Turn right here, mate.</em> Yep, thought as much, we're back on the same road! <em>"OK mate, this'll do", </em> he said and promptly got out and walked to the house next door to the house where the woman had gone! Far be it from me to suggest anything, but it brings a whole new meaning to "Getting on really well with the neighbours."</p>

<p>Interstingly, a lot of people seemed to ask you to pull up a distance from their front door. Sometimes I wondered if it was just that they didn't want a cab outside their house, or maybe they needed that short walk to build up the courage to enter the home? Cabbing, you see the full spectrum of peoples behaviour. I've seen people starting a relationship, settled down into the 'same old same old' routine of supermarket shopping and working men's club on a Saturday night to the break-ups with rings and abuse thrown through the back window as the rear door is slammed in the remaining passengers face. Cabbies seem to be barmen and barbers all rolled into one. Maybe it's their reputation for being talkative that makes people want to spill their life story from the back of a cab?</p>
