MONOMAD - The ancient wall in Xian (4 photos)

The ancient city walls in China are built as a defense systen, in order to protect the city. Xian still has an intact city wall and it's possible to rent a bike a take a ride all the way around. The photos were taken when I was on this bicycle tour. The wall is 14 kilometer all the way around, so it took some time to get around. It was renovated in the 1980s, but it was first in 2005 it was open and one could get up on the wall for a walk. Xian is one of the ancient cities that has served as capital for 11 dynasties over a period of 4000 years.It is an impressive wall.
