SMASh Contest Round 259 - my Entry "Not a sundial ..."
Hello everybody!

My contribution to the SMASh Contest Round 259 is "Not a sundial, but the shadow of the hanging man".

It is a photo of the art installation "Sign of the times" on the north-west facade between the 7th and 8th floor of the Hotel InterContinental Vienna. The photo was taken in September 2017 in passing and shows the large shadow cast by a man hanging on a clock. I also added a second photo (in landscape format) out of competition.

The installation consisted of a life-size man holding onto the hand of a huge clock. This was a re-enactment of a scene from the silent comedy film "Safety Last!" from 1923 - a scene that went down in film history. The art installation was dismantled again in February 2018.

Hallo Allerseits!

Mein Wettbewerbsbeitrag ist "Keine Sonnenuhr, sondern der Schatten des hängenden Mannes".

Es ist ein Foto der Kunstinstallation "Sign of the times" (Zeichen der Zeit) an der Nordwestfassade zwischen dem 7. und 8. Stock des Hotel InterContinental Wien. Das Foto wurde im September 2017 von mir im Vorbeigehen aufgenommen und zeigt den großen Schattenwurf eines Mannes, der an einer Uhr hängt. Ich habe auch ein zweites Foto (im Querformat) außer Konkurrenz hinzugefügt. 

Die Installation bestand aus einem lebensgroßen Mann, der sich am Zeiger einer riesigen Uhr festhält. Es handelte sich dabei um eine Nachbildung einer Szene aus der Stummfilmkomödie "Ausgerechnet Wolkenkratzer!" (Originaltitel: "Safety Last!") aus dem Jahr 1923 - eine Szene die in die Filmgeschichte einging. Die Kunst-Installation wurde  im Februar 2018 wieder abmontiert.
