Fear as we know is a universal emotion felt by every living being. Both humans and animals experience this emotion. Fear is simply a feeling that arises when we perceive danger threats to our wellbeing or that of our loved ones.

As much as this emotion is termed “negative” and "toxic", it can also be positive. Positive in the sense that it makes us aware of danger and the consequences of our actions. Fear is completely normal and shouldn't be stereotyped. I think it's fallacy to believe you have no fears or aren't scared of anything. Some people even experience fear of the unknown. So, if you're not sure of what you're afraid of then you probably haven't had enough self-reflection or discovery. 

As for me, I've been scared before. Not once, not twice but countless times. I've actually been in many situations were I was extremely scared because of what I could lose. Matter of fact, my ultimate fear is the fear of death and dying. I was really scared when I had a car accident because I thought I'd die. I'm also extremely scared of loosing my loved ones to the hands of death.

I remember being scared out of my wits when I thought I had lost my Dad. The incident occurred one Saturday morning in 2012. Everyone was doing their usual chores while my Dad was in the bathroom taking a shower because he had a business seminar to attend.

Then all of a sudden, we heard him scream from the bathroom. That scream alone made my heart skip a beat and I immediately sensed danger. We rushed to the bathroom and found my Dad bleeding profusely on the floor. Turns out that he slipped, fell and hit his head on the ceramic tile while he was about leaving the bathroom.

Even more frightening, a part of his head had cut open and blood gushed out a lot. I and my siblings were just displaced. I particularly kept screaming and crying and couldn't keep calm. I literally thought my Dad would bleed to death. Being only 9 years old at that time, I just couldn't imagine being fatherless. My mom on the other hand was devasted but she pulled herself together and got my dad dressed. She then ran off to call for help. And due to the fact that we had no car then, my mom went to a neighbor of ours who lived nextdoor. It was our neighbor who swiftly drove my dad and mom to the hospital for treatment.

My siblings and I stayed home and couldn't help but feel anxious. A lot was going through my mind but I managed to pull myself together and prayed fervently for my Dad's survival. I prayed that his condition wouldn't be critical and everything would be fine.

Long story cut short, my Dad's injury didn't cause any brain damage. He's cut was sewed up and drugs were administered. The injury healed up quickly in fact. And believe me, that incident was way more traumatic for me than it was for my dad. This is because I can't bear to see my loved ones in pain or at the brink of death.

Honestly, I don't know if I could pull myself through if faced with another situation worse than that. However, I've accepted this fear of mine and I'm working towards overcoming it.
