由於科技進步，現在人們無論身處何地，都能透過網路、交通、媒體等方式迅速互動、交流與合作，所以，在禮品展上，特別規劃一區，展售外國商品，所以，我也有機會看到它國的特色商品，並近距離的與遠方來客們互動。

記得，我出國旅遊時，如峇里島，常常有機會看到當地的手工藝作品。那些具特色又便宜的手工木雕作品，我雖然很想買，但是，假如一時衝動買下來的話，會佔托運行李空間，或許還需要申報通關，所以，只能忍痛放棄了，現在，不但可以看到那些異國情調的商品，喜歡的話，還可以直接買回家。

聽著介紹人員展示手工編織包，一開始我不甚在意，當我知道，那些編織包是以馬雅文化為靈感後，雖然我沒有深入了解馬雅文化，不過，我頓時覺得展示的那些羊毛後背包、手提包、側背包都非常具有特色，可能是因為馬雅文化背後的神祕感吧，或是介紹人員的故事說得太動聽了。

那些手工蠟燭真的非常引人注目，不只是因為動物外型，更因為那種不協調的混搭配色設計，讓商品與眾不同，我們認知中的大象是灰色，但手工蠟燭的大象是鮮豔的黃色，河馬有著斑馬的花紋，犀牛則有著漂亮的斑點，價錢則落在七百到一千台幣之間，採用特殊的硬蠟製作，硬蠟形成了蠟燭的外殼，當燭光點燃時，外殼幾乎不會融化，所以，外殼仍然可以再次使用。

我也開始反省，以前我出國旅遊所買的那些送給親友或是留作紀念的伴手禮，包裝看似華麗，實則內容空洞，不僅缺乏實用性，甚至讓人懷疑其品質與價值，相反地，假如選擇一項真正代表當地文化、工藝或特色食材的商品，或許更能打動人心，且更加實在與體面。

Thanks to advancements in technology, people today can interact, communicate, and collaborate quickly no matter where they are through the internet, transportation, and media. Because of that, the gift expo specially set up an international zone to showcase and sell products from different countries. So I had the chance to see unique items from abroad and even chat with people from faraway places.

I remember when I traveled abroad, like in Bali, I often came across local handmade crafts. Those detailed and affordable wooden carvings really caught my eye. I wanted to buy them, but I held back because they would take up too much space in my checked luggage, and I might have to deal with customs. It was a shame to leave them behind. But now, I get to see those exotic items here and if I like something, I can buy it and take it home directly.

At first, I didn’t pay much attention when a presenter was showing off some handwoven bags. But once I learned they were inspired by Mayan culture, I suddenly found them so unique, even though I don’t know much about the Mayans. Maybe it was the mysterious vibe of their culture, or maybe the presenter's storytelling was just that good. Either way, the wool backpacks, totes, and crossbody bags really stood out to me.

The handmade candles also really caught my attention. It wasn’t just because they were shaped like animals, but the quirky, mismatched color combinations made them so different from anything I’d seen. For example, instead of gray, the elephant candle was a bright yellow. The hippo had zebra stripes, and the rhino was covered in colorful spots. They were priced between NT$700 to NT$1000, made with a special kind of hard wax that keeps the outer shell intact even while the candle burns—so the shell can be reused afterward.

That got me thinking about all the souvenirs I used to buy when traveling abroad—flashy packaging but not much substance. Some weren’t even practical, and their quality was questionable. In contrast, a product that truly reflects local culture, craftsmanship, or unique ingredients probably leaves a much deeper impression. It's more meaningful and a better choice overall.
