DIYHub is a curation initiative aiming to support creators who love crafting, making things from scratch, home & gardening. We have many passionate and talented creators who love sharing their projects and works with us.
This new series is all about these awesome creators. We will have them sharing with us their experiences in their journey, how they started to get involve with what they are doing now, what are the challenges they face and how they overcome those challenges. And maybe share some tips so we can learn together.
If you have any questions you would like to ask our creators, you are also welcome to drop us a comment here at this post or in our [Discord](https://discord.io/diyhub).
**How to get featured in one of our upcoming interviews?**

1. Please introduce yourself with a few sentences.
>My name is Zak Ludick, I live in Cape Town South Africa. I am a father of 3 and partner of Claire Mobey (@clairemobey on Hive). I work in the HVAC industry as a Health and Safety Officer, Project Manager and Technician. Though my background initially came from the Computer Retail industry and I spend most of my work time doing the supervision, I do love getting busy in my own garden and garage workshop.
<hr>
2. Please explain what your craft means to you.
>Crafting to me means that I can make anything that I set my mind to. In 2012 and 2013 I had to move to a small town for work because of economic reasons and did labour instead of IT sales. This exposed me to a wide range of skills I would not have gained by standing behind a sales counter. In the HVAC industry, where I am trained to do anything from metal work to electrics, my horizons expanded dramatically in regards to what I can do by myself.
<hr>
3. What or who inspire you to start crafting?
>My inspiration for crafting and building things comes from the practical need to fix things that are broken and to improve things around the house. Sure there are a lot of things that I would like to make for the fun of it, but those projects will have to wait until I have done the 100s of little jobs around the house I need to do! haha
<hr>
4. Have you ever thought of giving up crafting?
>I don't think giving up crafting is a possibility. The need to do things myself and the ability to have tools to do them with means that I will never run out of things to craft. I think maybe if I lose my arms and legs I would stop, but maybe then, I will need to craft arms and legs!
<hr>
5. In which communities do you post and why (except DIYHub)?
>I post in a variety of communities. I have a fiction writing hobby and aspire to write and publish many fantasy-orientated books. They are an expression of artistic outlet for me and I am a worldbuilder. I feel that by writing and publishing stories in fantasy fiction I can create scenarios for literary art as well as express my philosophies without calling into disrepute any group of people. I also post philosophy and cooking!

6. What kind of other content do you enjoy the most on Hive and why?
>I enjoy all sorts of content. Another thing that I do on Hive is I teach people how to blog. This means that I coach a wide variety of people with a wide variety of interests. I tend to read and watch anything: Music, Crypto, Gaming, Cooking, Crafts, Photography. Usually anything and everything that my community is involved with!
<hr>
7. Please name three users who inspired you during your journey in Hive.
>I joined the blockchain before the hardfork, went dark, and came back into it again. I didn't come back because someone nudged me to do so, but I did meet a lot of people that were inspiring along the way. I think that each community has some key people that I am thankful for. When I re-started using the blockchain after about 3 years of inactivity I think the people at Ecency and The Terminal were the ones that welcomed me a re-trained me in all the new things. @brittandjosie, @beeber, @melinda010100 and @wesphilbin being the main ones at the time.

8. What is your advise to others who would want to start their crafting journey?
>If I would advise anyone to start crafting I would need to take the route of the Safety Officer in me! At the start, look at how others craft but before using tools and especially power tools, do educate yourself on the Safety precautions involving the use of those tools. I would say most crafting people focus on the process and the end result but what you do NOT need is for your crafting to result in a visit to the doctor or some lasting injury. Get yourself gloves and goggles for the appropriate work you wish to do. Consider protecting your body while working. However, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is the LAST tier of protection against injury. You can do any kind of work safely if your METHOD of working is safe!
