A team at the University of Utah thought that it would be a good idea to spend federal grant money on organizing a study to investigate the prevalence of food-related posts on Twitter. The ground-breaking results concluded that most people post on Twitter about coffee and beer more than any other food. . . .

The group looked at millions of tweets that were geotagged and they discovered that only about 5 percent of those tweets mentioned food, with the most popular mentions being coffee, beer, pizza, Starbucks, and wine. The findings were reported in the Journal of Medical Internet Research – Public Health. 

## One wonders if anyone would have spent these types of resources investigating such a topic, if they instead were left with no choice but trying to come-up with the funding for it in a voluntary way.

They also analyzed a great deal of tweets that were related to physical activity, finding that most posted about walking, followed by dancing, cardio, and fishing. Researchers also attempted to analyze happiness by looking at tweets and they utilized a computer program to process the language. They concluded that roughly 20 percent of the tweets that they found were of a happy tone and the majority of them were found to come from Montana. Compare that to what they say was the least happy state which was Louisiana.

Even the researchers themselves admit the shortcomings of the investigation, claiming that the tweets don't offer a true reflection of the spectrum of feelings or experiences that people exhibit and have.
