It didn't take long before people started announcing that they were <b>out of here</b> on the Twitter social media platform once Elon Musk took over. 

Several celebrities and athletes have voiced their concern about where the platform is headed and are wondering what Musk intends to do about questionable speech on the platform. 

Are so many going to leave that it will eventually turn into another circle jerk social media platform? Some progressives have suggested that the critics should <b>stay and fight</b> in an effort to keep democracy alive so as to not let it become one big echo chamber. 

Will they be successful? 

Some of those social media users [might already be looking](https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/28/tech/twitter-user-reaction-musk-deal/index.html) to alternative platforms.

Dissent to the status quo in the eyes of many today can in their minds constitute 'hate speech'. We already have rules surrounding hate speech, threats, harassment etc, but social media has made things a lot different over the years. 

People from across the political spectrum have been censored and silenced on one platform or another and it can be questionable at times as to how the logic operates behind that censorship system when certain posts are removed while others, arguably more controversial, might remain posted. Trying to tackle the issue of hate speech is one of the top priorities for social media platforms today.

Hundreds of millions of Twitter users have been active and regularly using the platform, with many of them checking in and using Twitter multiple times each day. There is no shortage of options out there though for some who might be wanting something different. Musk is just getting started on [his changes](https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/10/29/elon-musk-twitter-takeover/) but there are some who don't want to stick around for the ride to see what the end result might look like.
