# It's reported that at least <b>7 United Nations (UN) agencies</b> are now currently investigating blockchain applications. 

According to the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS), they have been investigating the possible applications for blockchain-based services to help facilitate international assistance. 

Apparently, the UN World Food Program (WFP) also wants to use cryptocurrencies in order to transfer financial aid to areas that need it. And they have scheduled a test for the upcoming month to see if they can use cryptocurrency to meet this need. 

<b>The first test for WFP was carried out at the beginning of this year</b> and it was called 'Building Blocks' and it saw a number of families receive WFP funds in the way of cryptocurrency. <b>WFP associates</b> say that the blockchain can help to revolutionize the way that they go about getting assistance to people in need around the world; they can do it much faster. 

But there are <b>other agencies as well</b> which have also been invested in analyzing the possible applications related to blockchain technology. 

### The groups allegedly tasked with looking into blockchain: WFP, UN Development Programme (UNDP), UN Women, UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), UN Development Group (UNDG), and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF).

## It isn't only the UN either who is interested in blockchain. 

Dubai is looking to become the first city in the world that will have its own economy built on blockchain by 2020. There are even official political parties now accepting cryptocurrency donations. Many suspect that in the future our market exchanges are going to look a lot different and more efficient as more businesses and services etc look toward blockchain technology. 

Blockchain has been referred to as <b>one of the most innovative</b> technologies since the internet; in the way of its potential impact on our way of life and the potential benefits that it can provide us. In the same way that the internet greatly changed our lives and impacted our everyday way of living, many also believe that blockchain technology will have the same sort of impact.
