"If there is a God why is there so much suffering in the world?" QUESTION OF THE WEEK 9.2
![20220113_223004_0000.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/draysax/EoEoyte5cNgcNjQt1WcAtrnPkYCxaFvA9iPzS4v8W4AQKCqkc4TA6ftCUgNgdzZF33n.png)

An interesting question!

This question is so common that it is continually asked all the time, as there are few unbiased, definitive and objective answers to it.
Well, could there be definitive and objective answers to it, in a world where belief-systems are so diverse and numerous?

I think it's great that topics like this keep coming up because they help us really evaluate a lot of things about our existence, which in turn help us find reason to why we do things and the implicit effect of our actions both on ourselves and the world we live in.

First, to decipher why there is suffering even when God exists means to base the premise of the question on the existence of God.

But what if this question is viewed from a sort of neutral point..
So the question might be...
Why is there suffering?

So can you find an explanation for suffering if the God-factor was removed?
This might help one find more answers to the question.

Now going back to the real question...
Talking about why God would allow suffering brings in a lot more questions that would perhaps only be answered on a foundation of religion or a belief in a Supreme being.

Questions on who God is and how we came to be as creations of God would first need to be answered. It is based on these foundational questions that one would find reason to explain the above question 'Why would God allow suffering'?

If you were to view it from the Christian perspective for instance, most explanations would probably point to the fact that we have a "fractured" creation, with most conclusions deriving from the "fall of man" in the garden of Eden.

![Screenshot_20220113-224051_Brave.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/draysax/23wWprbweNVG7HzLiGZ61LZQrkvhcaGLPk9MigsAeLGGiuehkDUMoU82rHYRuYFksw9jZ.jpg)
*<a href="https://strangenotions.com/did-the-fall-of-man-really-occur/">Image Source</a>*
Some other religions would probably point to something different, but hovering around some similar thought process.
The strength of a view through the scopes of religion is that there is almost always an explanation for things being the way they are, usually as prescribed by their beliefs. So faith is key.
But these explanations wouldn't work for one who does not see through the scopes of belief or faith.

Some people would point to reasons outside the existence of God, whether they believe God or not. Most of these explanations would probably ascribe these sufferings as self-inflicted by humans.
We also have explanations talking about this topic from the viewpoint of psychology. According to psychology, 'Suffering is the result of a person's tendencies, conditioning, patterns of thinking, and behaviors'.

Evolution and some other scientific explanations generally ascribe some of these things to what I would call "a diminishing world with limited resources, necessitating survival strategies". This concept would affect our biological lives, but also implicate our psychological and social lives.
There are a lot of questions that would follow, using this analogy, but where this analogy would greatly faulter is when it gets to explaining the origin of things (which is still one great question science might not answer).
Science till today can't specifically explain the first origin of everything as far as origin of existence is concerned.
Science only begins after things came to existence.
And there lies the fault of Science.
Whatever would become the explanation from here would be based on things we can know from things that exist, and no more.

![20220113_225048_0000.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/draysax/EokhPqtejbRaRQ6ZKwTaZwcGY2Da23SThAHmovgvpSfWuRrYQKTB16BnEeHQ4sAq4Zf.png)

And here lies the dilemma of answers. Your answer would really depend on your inclination. If I went on and on, one might not find a final doubt-crushing, objective and flawless defence for any of the school of thoughts.

It might seem I haven't answered the question๐Ÿ˜€, but I think I did - I have given you points to see through the various answers that could be.

Whichever may be right, one thing is sure, and it percolates through all school of thoughts - **alleviation of suffering amongst us still lies very much in our hands.**
And I think this is ultimately important.

Let us as much as we can do all what we can to add some happiness to the world we live in.
It is the least we can do.
Have a great year!
Thanks for reading!

You've done well with this topic. Most importantly, I like your concluding part. We all need to work on ourselves to make humanity better

Beautiful Submission.

May I add that Suffering and enjoyment both exist without God. Meaning that you cant call God responsible for suffering or pleasure.

There's suffering because of 2 emotions in men...

Greed and selfishness.

Almost every suffering of man can be attributed to these 2 powerful emotions.

So I agree, asking the question, "why is there suffering when God exists" is a way of pushing our responsibilities as humans to God...

I quite see your point of view there. Valid!
Some however ask the question in order to associate it with the question of God's ability to do and undo, sine he's "all-powerful", "all-knowing".

If he really is Supreme, he could stop these things from happening and facilitate good stuff, regardless of our choice as humans, since it's all for humanity's good.

@draysax If God acted in that way, he would be a dictator... It doesn't matter whether what he enforces is good or evil... He would still be a dictator... A tyrant.

See How God behaved when he became a man... That's the perfect way to view God.
